Group Health and Safety Manager Job

Position: Group Health and Safety Manager (permanent)

Location: UK wide, role can be based from either their Dartford, Bilston or Stalybridge depots

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum

 

The Company:

Our client is a highly successful, innovative contracting organisation engaged in major engineering projects for the installation, lifting, relocation and transport of machinery and plant within a wide range of industries. This international company has operations throughout the UK and Europe and is seeking a dynamic, self motivated Health Safety processional to support its business.

 

The Role:

Reporting to the Managing Director, the role will be responsible for ensuring full Health Safety compliance across the business as well as fostering a culture of safety and responsibility.

 

The main responsibilities will be:

·         Making changes to working practices that are safe, practical and comply with legislation.

·         Preparing Health and Safety strategies and developing internal policies.

·         Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.

·         Carrying out regular site inspections and audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.

·         Keeping records of inspections findings and producing reports that suggest improvements as well as incidents and accidents and producing statistics for directors and managers.

·         Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) applicable legislation and any developments that affect our industry, especially CDM, LOLER, PUWER, Working at Height, Risk Assessment, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH, Work place transport, etc.

·         Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, etc.

·         Maintaining the advisory link with the Directors and all other employees on matters relating to Health and Safety, including the issuing of a report to the Board on a monthly basis.

·         Assist in the investigation of accidents, dangerous occurrences or suspected health hazards.

·         Assist with the preparation of Risk and Hazard Assessments and procedures to ensure safe working practices and compliance with Health and Safety legislation and BS EN 18001 Standard accreditation.

·         UK divisions with compliance to the BS EN 18001 Standard Management system.

·         Assess the impact of proposals for new European and national legislation and standards; advise management and make any necessary recommendations.

·         Review and monitor through assessments and regular site visits the implementation of the Health and Safety Policy and the Health and Safety Management system.

·         Organise and assist with training of employees at all levels in related aspects of Health and Safety.

·         Issue a Health and Safety report to the Board, detailing all known accidents and incidents on a monthly basis.

·         Issue safety bulletins to all employees and subcontractors where required.

·         Carry out internal audits in accordance with our BS EN 18001 Standard management system.

·         Maintain and adapt as required the BS EN 18001 Standard management system.

·         Carry out a documented review of all Health and Safety documentation and assist the divisions with the implementation of any updates on a yearly basis.

·         Arrange and complete a yearly management review with the Managing Director, inclusive of the setting of health and safety objectives and reviewing of all health and safety related policies for the following year.

·         Ensure sub-contractor Health and Safety resources meet Company, project and legislative requirements.

 

Requirements:

You must be an experienced Health Safety professional and as a minimum:

·         Be qualified in occupational Health and Safety to at least NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.

·         Have a proactive and practical attitude to Health and safety.

·         Have a good practical knowledge of health and safety.

·         Have a good working knowledge of site engineering, heavy lifting etc

·         Be able to use Microsoft Office to a good level including Excel.
