Position Purpose
Grains Oilseeds Supply Chain (GOSC) Asia operates on an integrated global basis to source, process, transport, and distribute grains oilseeds in Asia. The Business Unit (BU) operates from various locations around Asia including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, India and Japan, to provide location access to customers and origination sources.
Reporting to the Asia Global Trading Analytics (GTA) Lead, this position will focus on building supply demand forecasts for food and feed demand estimates in the countries that GOSC Asia operates in and provide actionable trading insights based on regional/global SDs. The role will also require significant interaction within the Grains Oilseeds team and the World Trading Unit. This position will be responsible for coordinating and establishing both short and long term SDs for the region.
Principle Job Responsibilities
· Assist (in conjunction GTA and local management) in the development and execution of a strategy to build a strong objective reading of supply and demand for the region.
· Provide oversight to all supply and demand analysis with predominant focus on food/feed demand and margin analysis across GOSC Asia portfolio of commodities.
· Coordinate with respective regional commercial teams to capture, distill, and interpret real time market signals of supply, demand, and order flow. Proactively communicate analysis results with commercial and world trading teams. Results of analysis create actionable insights for local and global trading teams in terms of better understanding commodity trade flows and price action.
· Work actively with GTA's data management team to ensure country specific data is catalogued, captured, and stored within GTA systems.
· Identify and leverage new external sources of information (people, raw data, policy changes, etc) to improve objective understanding of food and feed demand.
· Actively collaborate between GOSCA GTA and Cargill's other regional business such as Animal Nutrition and Food Ingredients and Systems.
· Participate in GTA World Economic Analysis Team (WEAT) initiatives as required.
Education
Masters Degree in Ag Economics, Economics, MBA, Statistics or similar field
Experience
More than 5 years analysis experience in grain /or oilseeds in a major producing region (preferred)
Knowledge of agricultural trading business, and what information adds value to trading
Working knowledge and experience with regression modeling
Ability to work with multi-cultural teams and understand detailed analytical problems
Ability to navigate complex issues and communicate findings in short, clear messages
Ability to build a strategy and lead people
Ability to take and give critical feedback
Confident to challenge status quo and be willing to voice champion a different viewpoint
Skills
Excellent communication skills
Advanced statistical modeling skills preferred (ie Monte Carlo analysis)
Strong statistical forecasting skills
