Hardware Designer – Oxford

A Hardware Engineer to design, implement, evaluate and verify a complete data acquisition system and the sensors attached to it.

Technical understanding should include discrete and FPGA logic together with enough analogue hardware and firmware coding skills to complete the system.

However, the role will also suit a less experienced engineer as suitable guidance will be available in all technical aspects of the tasks as long as they are enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to acquire and apply knowledge quickly in a small team where everyone contributes to their full ability.

Typical levels of experience and education:
*BSc or BEng in appropriate engineering discipline.
*One to three years relevant experience in Industry.

Skills required with prefered experience. The mix and depth of skills is expected to vary but there should be some basic understanding of those listed

*Digital hardware - data acquisition using discrete logic and FPGA (Altera Quartus/VHDL).
*Embedded processor - real-time code in assembler or C. (NIOS/PIC/Eclipse tolls/SVN)
*Analogue and mixed signal - practical understanding of op-amps, ADC and DAC prefereably high resolution (e.g. audio or instrumentation)
*Data transmission - RS485, UART, Ethernet at low (hardware to layer 3) level.
*PCB layout - some practical experience, e.g. Easy PCB, Orcad, Altium

Useful experience might be expected from someone from the following backgrounds
*Instrumentation and control.
*Data acquisition.
*Measuring instruments and sensors.
*Audio.
