To learn more, please visit our website at www.sandia.gov . We are searching for a Hazardous Waste Technician for the California Environmental Operations Department at the Livermore facility. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
The Hazardous Waste Technician reviews and processes all site hazardous and regulated waste disposal requests and assists waste generators in the detailed chemical characterization of waste. The Hazardous Waste Technician performs pickup, packaging, and storage of all Hazardous and Universal waste, and coordinates the shipment of lab pack, non-bulk and bulk waste quantities working closely with the waste processing and disposal contractors; works with other Environmental Management personnel to ensure that the hazardous waste is processed, stored and shipped from the Waste Management Facility in compliance with the Part B Permit and current local, State and Federal regulations; is a key customer support position interacting closely with on-site hazardous waste generators to address waste issues and characterization; and also supports the on-site Radioactive/Mixed Waste activities in support of the corporate program, the Chemical Management Program, the Pollution Prevention Program and participates on the Spill Response Team.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related scientific or engineering field (i.e., chemistry or chemical engineering) or 10 or more years of direct applicable waste management experience, is required. Working knowledge of federal and CA state hazardous waste regulations and of hazards and safe work practices associated with handling and managing hazardous materials/wastes; excellent verbal communication skills, writing skills, and interpersonal skills; and good computer skills, are required.
Teamwork skills and ability to work in a stressful environment, are desirables.
