Head of Clearing
The New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) exists to build and operate capital, risk and commodity markets and the infrastructure required to support them within New Zealand. Since September 2010, the New Zealand Clearing and Depositary Corporation Limited (NZX Clearing), regulated by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the Financial Markets Authority, has been providing clearing and settlement services. Recently there has been an increase in both the overall number of transactions, as well as an increase in the amount of regulation designed to protect this vital service. Subsequently, NZX have created a new position to spearhead this department as it continues from strength to strength.
Reporting into the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for the day to day management of a dynamic risk and settlement team, consisting of 2 direct and 4 indirect reports. You will play a key role in the upgrade of the clearing and settlement system. Furthermore, you will also take responsibility for liaising with national and international regulators. Key to this role will be an understanding and an application of market and client development.
You will have a strong regulatory background, and will have a clear understanding of compliance. You will have experience of dealing with regulators and will be comfortable with board reporting. Risk and settlement experience would also be extremely beneficial, as would a broad understanding of business development.
This role could be based in either Wellington or Auckland, with some travel between the two locations expected. Although a senior role, we will certainly consider candidates with the technical background who are ready to develop and grow their career. We would consider applications from a wide range of backgrounds including banking, brokerage, fund management or any other risk or settlement function either nationally or internationally. Although we would consider people from a wide range of backgrounds, a passion for the industry is essential.
