The Company
They are a UK Bank with specialist services in wealth management, property and asset backed lending, trade finance and treasury.
The Role
This is a new role reporting to the CEO. The role has come about due to expansion and the credit review process being transferred to London as the business has expanded. You would supervise one member of staff. The Bank's lending and investment decisions require credit approval and they have trade finance, bonds, interbank and property development lending as their main product offerings. The role is not just about providing credit oversight but also about 'doing' and development of the function further and will require an experienced professional. The role will be highly varied and includes the following:
- Providing oversight and management of the credit review process and to the credit manager
- Taking responsibility for monitoring and control of all sovereign risk and financial institution risk by way of annual, Interim and emergency credit reviews.
- Assisting with research function for clients with whom the bank has a relationship.
- Safeguarding the bank from losses relating from credit exposures and advising where the bank is exposed to risks emerging in the review cycle.
- Engaging in independent external reviews and research activity relating to all credit exposures of a sovereign risk or financial institution risk nature.
- Impartial assessment of credit counterparties at all times.
- Reporting any consistent exceptions to Credit Policy Procedures or oversights with a potential detrimental implication for the bank and ensuring risk exposures undertaken by the bank are consistent with the bank's Credit Policy Procedures Manual.
- You will recommend and implement any appropriate changes to the Credit Policy Procedures Manual.

- Able to chair the credit committee where required and review and critique all reports relating to credit committee decisions.
- To liaise internally regarding the risk weighted asset calculations, capital usage and related regulatory reporting.
- You will supervise all daily, monthly and product excess reports, including margin trading report and debit balance reports, collateralised bond report (Trading Book) FX trading, Customer group limits utilization reports, special conditions report, connected accounts exception report, country limit utilisation report and any other reports as agreed. You will investigate and follow up with corrective actions as necessary.
- You will also take responsibility for all Credit Compliance issues, Basel II observance per credit exposure, and all Credit Policy and Procedure issues in the Department including recommending necessary changes to appropriate authorities where appropriate.
Who they are looking for
It is likely that the person who can fulfil this role will have medium to smaller sized bank exposure. But in any event you must have the following experience:
- A number of years experience as a credit professional in a Corporate Banking, Financial Institution, Sovereign Risk, Syndication or Corporate Finance environment.
- Up to date Professional Credit training / knowledge.
- Risk evaluation of ISDA Agreements.
- Able to chair a credit committee
- Knowledge of the banks products with trade finance deals as a minimum
- Knowledge of managing the whole credit process
