Head of Development Job in South London, London UK
We are looking for an experienced Head of Software Development to join a London based Software and Information Services provider, and take responsibility for leading their product development division. You will manage three technical team leaders and their teams that are responsible for the delivery of all new product and platform development, along with the continual improvement of existing systems. This is a high profile role that is integral to the success of the company as a whole, and will see you building and releasing large scale applications on an international scale.
Your core remit will be to inspire and lead the team through technical credibility and motivation. Team productivity and career development is vital so you will be expected to prioritise work load, introduce effective working practises, and ensure projects are being delivered in line with strategic goals. You will also build and maintain strong working relationships with your peers group which included heads of product, architecture, project management and PMO.
The business is underpinned by the success of its software products, and you will play a key role in ensuring that the commercials are not forgotten, and that everything delivered is in line with client demand, along with industry advancements. You will be responsible for contributing to group strategy, and developing relationships with the wider business to make sure that projects are clearly defined and achievable.
To be successful in this role, you must have a proven track record of experience leading development teams in a software house environment. You must have a strong technical background, and you will have been a software developer in your earlier career. From a technology perspective, it is a Microsoft house, so you will have exposure to C# / .NET, and will be familiar with standards including REST, SOAP, SAML, XML, SQL and HTTP, along with the Microsoft middleware stack. You will have worked on complex, data heavy software systems in a SaaS environment, and will have a good understanding of development techniques, coding standards and working practices.
In addition, you will have proven experience managing the day to day running of a development team, including recruitment, training and project management. You will have worked with third party suppliers, and must be capable of managing both internal and external relationships at all levels of seniority.
