Head of Fund Operations
This is a senior level funds management operational leadership position within the fund accounting and reporting group of our client - a leading diversified global funds management business.
The ideal applicant will come from a strong fund accounting, fund reporting or fund operations background with around 10-18 years of custody and/or funds management experience. This role will manage several senior team managers, and indirectly lead a larger team within the business. Experience within unit pricing, fund accounting, financial reporting and tax reporting is ideal.
Although not a pre-requisite, typically these positions require a candidate to be either CPA or ACA qualified. Some understanding of asset management tax reporting, is usually often desirable as you will be leading a tax team.
Salary will be variable depending on the background of the successful candidate although we expect circa $180-220k+super.
Summary of the Role:
The Head of Fund Operations plays a strategic and critical role within the Operations Division.
This role will provide active leadership in the business and for the operational change component associated with the integration of new business. This role has overall responsibility for the operation, cost, output and service delivery of the team. It oversees a large team including the focused development of a number of direct reports. The Head of Fund Operations will establish and lead a dynamic team to respond to changing business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
The role is responsible for leadership and full accountability for the following:
• Contributory leadership participation with the Management Team
• Active participation in senior client and relationship management meetings
• Operational leadership of change incorporating client requirements
• Full service delivery in line with the SLA
• Business Implementation – including on boarding of new clients, restructures, product development
• Costing and budget management for the function
• Area profitability including management of SLA compliance cost vs. ad hoc query cost considerations
• Strategic resourcing including growth and succession planning, area morale, staff satisfaction and retention
• Supporting the overall service delivery of the Operations Division via cross-team co-operation/communication
Strategic Leadership:
• Cost management, rationalisation and improvement (where possible)
• Analysis, innovation, development and implementation of change and process improvement
• Development of the team including growing the area's technical depth and capability in product, process and service delivery
• Maintain and monitor the Risk Control Framework for the services provided to client, including formal supervision and working closely with Risk and Compliance and Business Controllers, identifying potential risks and developing controls to mitigate them
• Influencing the desired culture of flexibility, accountability and openness to change
• Timely performance management of the team including goal setting, direction and development of individuals
• Identification and retention of high potential resources and succession planning
Ideal Qualifications Experience required:
• 15 years+ experience within the financial services industry,
• Proven track record within Fund Administration
• Proven change management and process improvement capability
Technical Skills required:
The Head of Fund Operations requires an individual with a strong technical background in Fund Administration incorporating all aspects of unit pricing, tax and accounting together with team management experience.
- The candidate needs to understand the role which Fund Administration plays within the broader organisation and thereby understand the bigger picture of impacts and influences Fund Administration have with its stakeholders.
