Head of Legal Compliance - Singapore
This is an outstanding opportunity for a top legal professional to relocate to Singapore to head up the Legal Compliance function of this global asset management firm.
This is a strategic hire and a unique opportunity to be part of a well established US- headquartered firm that is growing its Asian-Pacific operations. The successful candidate will support a newly launched Macro fund that is managed out of Singapore, and will also be expected to provide support for a special strategy fund that is soon to be launched.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the relationship with the regulator - Singapore Monetary Authority - and assist with all regional regulatory matters.
- Monitor all regulatory developments affecting the Liquid Markets Business in the Asia-Pacific region and manage the legal and regulatory risk for the office.
- Design and implement new policies and procedures as needed.
- Provide advice and support to the trading team (comprised of portfolio managers and execution traders) real time, covering strategies that include global macro, commodities and sector specific equities.
- Work closely with the US-based headquarters to assist with negotiating agreements, forming new funds and establishing new client relationships.
- Otherwise serve as the primary legal and compliance person on day-to-day issues for the Liquid Markets Business in the Asia-Pacific region.
Experience/Background
The ideal candidate:
- Qualified from a top law school.
- Possessing a minimum of 10 years of directly relevant experience, including 5-7 years at a top law firm working with private investment funds and their advisers, and a minimum of 3 years of experience working in-house for a hedge fund adviser.
- Must have experience across a broad range of financial products (i.e. equities, rates, credit, foreign exchange and commodities).
- Highly organized, able to multi-task, work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Need not be currently based in Singapore, but must be willing to relocate.
