Head of Operational Risk – Macquarie Funds Group recruitment
Macquarie Funds Group (MFG) is Macquarie Group's funds management business. MFG is a full-service asset manager, offering a diverse range of capabilities and products including infrastructure and real asset management, securities investment management and structured access to funds, equity-based products and alternative assets. MFG has been managing assets for pension funds, institutions and retail investors since 1980 in Australia and 1929 in the US (through Delaware Investments). MFG has global reach, with a team of approximately 1,600 staff in Australia, Asia, the UK, Europe and the US, including US-based subsidiary Delaware Investments.

The Operational Risk Management team is a well established global team with members located across Sydney and Philadelphia. The team are responsible for assisting the MFG business, across all asset classes and products, in maintaining an appropriate risk management framework globally.
This is an attractive opportunity for an experienced Operational Risk professional to join Macquarie at a Director level as a key member of a Global business. The role requires a balance between strategic ability and involvement in the detail and day to day operations of the MFG business.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Proactively identifying operational risks and assessing the adequacy of controls to manage such risks;
- Managing internal approvals for, and implementing, new product activities and businesses in a controlled manner;
- Working with all areas of the business in ensuring that a strong control framework is maintained;
- Implementing an assurance program over the design and effectiveness of controls across the business;
- Designing and implementing targeted operational risk reviews;
- Analysing operational incidents (including their causes) to identify control improvements necessary and working with the business to ensure such actions are implemented; an Maintaining awareness of operational risk and controls across the financial services industry.
To succeed in this role, you will have significant experience gained in Funds Management with proven success leading an operational risk control framework or internal audit function. This role also requires:
- Funds management and/or structured products experience
- Proven leadership ability, being able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team of specialists
- Strong relationship building skills with the ability to influence and engage with clients, senior business leaders and specialist teams
- Have the ability to initiate and lead conversations with business leaders and risk management colleagues regarding anticipated and emerging issues
- A high degree of commercial acumen, understanding of emerging issues and, delivering solutions in a fast-paced, output focused environment
- A confident presenter, demonstrating strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (CA highly regarded)
