Head of Operations, C & IS recruitment

This strategic leadership role will be responsible for expanding and building out CIS/GFS capability in Bangalore and potentially another operational centre in APAC over the next 2-3 years.

To begin with, the responsibilities can be summarized as follows:
• Overall responsibility for day-to-day operations, SLA delivery migrations
• Responsible for measurement, monitoring  and achievement of capacity productivity targets
• Implement career progression initiatives across CIS, ensuring development of cross functional expertise
• Responsible for addressing all HR escalations working with the head of each function
• Responsibility for recruitment, successful migrations, BCP, Compliance and Risk
• Sets guidelines and provides  oversight, governance and ensures consistent implementation of guidelines
• Ensures talent management, career development and training are proactively and consistently implemented
• Provides support to productivity and, reengineering initiatives locally in coordination with global PMO
 

Principal Responsibilities

Core

•   Local leadership of the CIS Operations in Bangalore; CIS operations in Bangalore includes Fund Administration (FA), Transfer Agency (TA), Investment Operations Outsourcing (IOO), Hedge Fund Services (HFS), Investment Risk and Analytics Solutions (IRAS)

•   Plays active leadership role in significant new migrations and regional priorities as appropriate

•   Responsible for managing multiple units or functions through the direct management of a group of managers

•   Monitor and achieve capacity and productivity targets and help managers achieve their objectives

•   Dually reports to Global COO and Regional COO / Practice Executive

•   Develops regional functional policies, processes and procedures as needed within the framework of the Global Practice working with the Global head of control, PMO Risk as needed

•   Manages within parameters established by the Global COO and Regional executive

•   Plays active leadership role in significant new business take-ons where appropriate

•   Establish guidelines and monitor implementation of activities as per guidelines

•   Implements action plans for developing new business or expanding existing client relationships

•   Creates and maintains an inventory of GFS skills required vs. gaps by mapping existing talent

•   Articulates and promotes regional needs and considerations for the functional area

•   Work closely with regional functional managers in various processes / projects to ensure communication and smooth implementation

•   Active involvement in industry operational best practice and articulates / promotes regional needs and considerations for the functional area

•   Educates others on needs and issues specific to the region

•   Recommends enhancements to regional processes and policies

•   Ensures that regional functional teams are resourced appropriately to meet regional needs

•   Develops and manages functional budgets for all CIS functions

•   Assures adherence to Risk Control, Compliance standards

•   Escalates conflicts between Regions

General

•   Deliver high quality service to customers through accurate timely completion of all assigned tasks and requests for information

•   Applies knowledge of local laws and regulations to business practices to ensure compliance

•   Seasoned leader with extensive business experience, and broad functional expertise, with focus on proactive strategic leadership

•   Proactively establishes opportunities for increasing the level of client knowledge through regular discussions, webinars with RMs and Functional Heads and facilitate building the relationship further

•   Partner with Operational Heads locally and with peers in NA, APAC and EMEA in developing common methods

•   Collaborates with PMO to ensure effective prioritization and delivery (in addition to developing regional functional policies)

•   Educates others on needs and issues specific to the region

•   Recommends enhancements to regional processes and policies

•   Obtain, analyse and summarize market intelligence for the region

•   Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate personnel at key GFS clients

•   Ensures the Northern Trust/s methodologies and standards are followed on all change initiatives.  Responsible for resource allocation to support initiatives and the tracking and measurement of expected benefits

Management

•   Strong people manager with leadership qualities to think and act strategically

•   Focus on leading and developing people through continuous mentoring / coaching

•   Be an effective manager within the unit and with other units by imparting knowledge as appropriate

•   Provide objective and regular feedback to staff

•   Conducts the full performance management process and works closely with their direct manager on staffing decisions  

•   Consistently prioritise team goals above individual goals and manage the allocation of the workload in a fair and efficient manner

•   Expected to comply with the regulatory regime in which Northern Trust operates as appropriate to the above role

•   Expected to exercise due care and diligence, ensuring the areas the incumbent is responsible for are organised and controlled

•   Required to observe proper standards of market, business and personal conduct, demonstrating integrity in the execution of duties

Skills / Experience

•   Demonstrated experience in managing and providing thought leadership with at least 22 years of experience (more than 15 years in Operations), and minimum 10 years in supervising/managing teams.

•   Background and experience in Investment Management, Fund Accounting, Hedge Funds, portfolio accounting is mandatory

•   Business or financial services qualification or studying for same

•   Candidates with international experience in GFS and/or Investment Management industry is highly preferred

•   Strong leadership, management and organizational skills are required to develop periodic goals, and manage and motivate team members towards the established goals

•   Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to interact and manage expectations with stakeholders and management

•   Demonstrates strong experience in change initiatives, covering such areas as operations, IT and product development; with a track record of accomplishment in large, complex projects and change initiatives. 

•   Negotiation and persuasion skills are required to work with partners and implement changes.
