Team: Portfolio Client Implementation (PCI)
The PCI team is comprised of two groups (Portfolio Implementation Design and Portfolio Data Integrity Group) with separate but related mandates.
The focus of Portfolio Implementation Design is to enable product innovation and implementation; and ensure we operate in a globally-consistent, scalable and controlled manner. The focus of Portfolio Data Integrity Group is to ensure all portfolio implementations and change are understood and efficiently and accurately activated in core systems.
Portfolio Implementation Design
Our mission, applicable to existing products as well as new ones, includes:
- New Business Operating Model Assessment in partnership with GCG, Product Development and PMG
- Identify end-to-end operating model, capability gaps, potential implementation costs, and indicative implementation time-frames
- New Product Structuring in partnership with other stakeholders across BlackRock's 'infrastructure'
- Lead cross-functional working groups to design business processes for both BLK-sponsored funds complex separate accounts
- Lead the implementation of new portfolios, managing all of the impacted stakeholders across the business, observing sound project management protocols where appropriate
- Secure executive/decision maker approvals on new operating models
- Facilitate the New Product Committee and sanity check submissions for completeness/accuracy
- Create pipeline transparency
The team provides a highly valued consulting and implementation service which enables BlackRock to take on new business and meet clients' objectives as efficiently as possible. The team partners with many stakeholders across BlackRock, including Product Development, Global Client Group (GCG), Portfolio Management Group (PMG), Risk Quantitative Analysis and Business Operations to enable the launch and change to pooled products and separate accounts in a time-efficient, risk-controlled, client-focused, and cost-effective manner. The team also has significant exposure to external clients and their appointed custodians and administrators.
Portfolio Data Integrity Group
Our mission and objectives include:
- Working closely with the PID team, develop a strong understanding of the portfolio/client objectives
- Based on the requirements of the client, structure the portfolio in the relevant systems such that it can be managed and supported to meet its objectives
- On an ongoing basis ensure the integrity of BlackRock's portfolio data
- Support the growth in portfolio data richness, working with project teams to understand and implement change to our data set and processes
The team is critical to the firm's ability to build an environment within which clients' assets can be managed in a risk controlled manner. The breadth of the BlackRock business and growth in Multi Asset solutions mean that the team needs to interact with multiple groups within the organisation and contribute to establishing the portfolio for funding.
Role Description: Head of Portfolio Client Implementation, Asia Pacific
We are looking for a leader who is detail oriented, collaborative and proactive to join our team.
As a senior member of the Global PCI team, the role requires the individual to play a key role in driving forward the development of the team's mission and objectives and the deepening of PCI's services to our internal clients. The ability to understand the business and build credible relationships with senior decision makers across the firm is therefore critical.
As BlackRock evolve in Asia Pacific the candidate will need to partner with stakeholders across the region and globally to build out the team to ensure we are positioned to play a key role in contributing to the success of the firm
The key activities associated to the role include:
- Deliver a regional service through the team that fulfils the following responsibilities
- Providing advice and expertise on BlackRock's operating model
- Assisting GCG in understanding clients' operational requirements
- Taking the lead in detailed discussions and negotiations with clients' operational staff or appointed custodians and administrators, where appropriate
- Collating all key operational issues, and working with RQA to perform a risk analysis and provide assistance with developing mitigating controls. Ensuring that the necessary approvals from key stakeholders are obtained
- Working with BlackRock's operational teams to champion and drive forward the standard operating model in light of key client trends and new markets in order to minimise future non standard requirements
- Act as an interface between the GCG teams, PMG teams and BlackRock's operating teams relative to non-standard requirements. Where possible, seek to influence clients to adopt BlackRock's standard operating model but where not possible, and appropriate, understand, document, communicate and lead the implementation of non standard requirements to all impacted teams
- Manage and organise the team to best meet the requirements of the regional clients while ensuring consistency with global objectives. Ensure mechanisms exist to respond to changes in demand form different channels as appropriate
- Develop talent within the team ensuring there are growth opportunities for the talented individuals within the group, and raising the bar for non-performers
- Develop controls within the group that ensure a strong interface into local and global governance structures. Take a direct role in terms of committee membership where appropriate
- Work across the global team to ensure that where we are required to deliver services globally, that the teams are joined up and are able to offer a seamless service
Experience skills
- Will have managed and developed teams of highly motivated individuals, preferably including remote management of teams across the region
- Significant operational experience in the investment management industry. This will include a broad knowledge of operations and support functions within an innovative, multi-product environment
· Will have engaged with senior stakeholders/decision makers within an organisation managing/influencing expectations
· Ability to translate GCG and PMG requirements into fully functioning operating models with experience of the development and implementation of an investment capability/product, from initial idea through to launch
· Experience of working in a Global organisation providing services to international clients, with an understanding of the regulatory and market practice implications on the investment process
· Demonstrate a hands-on approach with strong project management skills. The candidate will need to have good problem solving skills, leading diverse project teams and working in a deadline driven environment
· Proven ability in developing and implementing robust processes and controls
· Knowledge of BlackRock's internal processes, products, and fund structures, preferred
· Ability to build relationships and work with people at all levels across BlackRock.
· Has a high level of self-motivation, with strong integrity ethics. Has the ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing circumstances as the business and group grows
· Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.
· Capable of working independently, as well as an effective team player.
Qualifications:
· At least 7-10 years of experience, preferably within the investment management industry or alternatively in a closely related environment
