Head of Research & Strategy for Product, Latin America and Iberia recruitment

Since 2004, assets under management from Latin American Iberian markets have grown from almost nil to over $40 billion in assets under management across our iShares, retail and institutional businesses. BlackRock's iShares footprint now includes 12 local funds in Mexico, 6 local iShares funds in Brasil, 1 local fund in Colombia and between 80 and 200 iShares and other funds listed or registered in 6 target markets. The regional business has offices in 8 locations in 6 countries.
The Head of Research Strategy will be responsible for BlackRock's product strategy and research efforts across Latin American and Iberian markets. This includes iShares products, Retail and Institutional solutions and product applications into our local markets.
Responsibilities:
• Create well researched product ideas and strategies across the Latin America -Iberia region with a view to local and international distribution. Key metric will be commercialization of research pipeline.
• Collaborate with country managers and sales teams to formulate help formulate product ideas to meet investors demand
• Consult with clients in specific countries and channels to understand their investment needs and to formulate product ideas to deliver solutions
• Create strong internal BlackRock network, particularly with investment groups, to fully understand BlackRock's investment capabilities and product structures in order to create product to solve client problems.
• Partner with the leaders of our regional business, with Global Client Group teams and with the different product management groups at BlackRock to develop a comprehensive product strategy
• Develop a 3 year product research pipeline that leads to NNB and NNR
• Understand how market participants interact with our existing product set. Ensure the investment solution will allow for efficient means for participants to interact with the product.
• Understand the regulatory and tax environments of each region and to think of the solutions to meet these requirements
• Work closely with the global iShares product research team to cross pollinate research ideas to leverage greater iShares.
• Work with the existing retail product development teams to conceive retail products in Mexico and Brasil (including BGF funds, Funds of ETF's and local mutual funds)
• Lead product innovation by championing local learnings and ideas into the broader BlackRock business
• Accept management responsibilities for at least 1 direct report
Qualifications:
• 7+ years of relevant investment industry experience with emphasis on investment research, portfolio management, and/or product structuring. Further areas of emphasis:
- active and index product development
- institutional and retail client investment needs
- development of products for distribution within Latin America and Iberia and broader international distribution.
• Proven ability to formulate investment ideas and support product development to meet the needs of investors
• Strategic thinking capabilities to turn numbers into ideas by championing a research plan which leads to NNR and NNB.
• Knowledge of capital markets and investment industry trends and dynamics in key countries (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Spain) as well as broader trends and dynamics across the entire region
• Knowledge and understanding of the requirements that go into the development of a successful investment product ranging from investment management, tax, regulatory, and operational needs.
• Strong analytical skills, preferably with an investment background in asset management, to understand complicated investments and their use for clients.
• Experience and understanding of multiple asset classes and/or investment structures.
• Experience and understanding of exchange traded funds is preferred
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills: able to execute in a team environment and form strong partnerships across product, distribution and operations teams in multiple locations.
• Experience and passion for emerging markets and Latin America-Iberia regions- a passion to challenge the status quo.
• A willingness to travel within our region
• BS/BA and MBA, CFA or PhD required.
• Fluency in English, as well as, Spanish and/or Portuguese
