The School of Veterinary Science is in its 76th year and is one of eight Schools within the UQ Faculty of Science. The School has a reputation for graduating self-reliant, independent and highly capable veterinarians. The School has almost 600 undergraduate and 100 postgraduate students, and has about 140 members of staff. The Veterinary Science program at UQ has full accreditation with both the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council and the Royal College
of Veterinary Surgeons. The University anticipates that it will undertake the second stage of the accreditation process with the American Veterinary Medical Association during late 2012.
The School of Veterinary Science has superb new facilities at the UQ Gatton Campus, providing the teaching, research and clinical infrastructure and resources to further develop its strong reputation as a leading provider of veterinary training, research and clinical care. The role The successful applicant will provide strong academic and administrative leadership to the School. The Head of School will define the profile of the School nationally and internationally, developing innovative
academic programs, strengthening the School’s research and teaching activities, overseeing the effective operations of the Schools clinics, securing external funds, and maintaining and enhancing the professional linkages of the School. Heads of School are responsible to the Executive Dean for the management of staff and resources and for the delivery of courses in programs offered by the Faculty of Science.
The person Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant field of study and be registered or eligible to be registered as a Veterinary Surgeon or Veterinary Specialist in Queensland in accordance to the criteria set by the Veterinary
Surgeons Board of Queensland. The successful appointee will have demonstrated excellence in leadership and management. They will have a demonstrated understanding of the disciplines encompassed within the School and how they interact with broader scientifi c, professional, environmental, economic, governance and social sphere. The new Head of School will be expected to uphold and develop the School’s reputation for excellence in teaching and research in Veterinary Science.
Remuneration A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful applicant. This is a full-time, continuing appointment as Professor (Level E). Appointment as Head of School will be full-time for fi ve years in the fi rst instance with a possible continuation of Headship by negotiation for a further term. Following the term as Head of School, the position will revert to a continuing appointment at Level E in the School of Veterinary Science.
