Overview:

Regional Head of WM IT Hub

The role is within the Wealth Management APAC IT organisation which consists of 160+ permanents in the region and 200+ outsourcers in Shenzhen providing application development and support to the regional and global businesses i.e. EMEA and Switzerland. For this role, the successful candidate will focus on the WM APAC Hub business which covers 4 locations, Japan, Taiwan, India and China. The Hub business is mainly domestic by nature and the maturity level differs.

Taiwan and Japan have a well established business model and technology platform while China and India are in build out stage. Technology plays an important role to support the growth of the business. For this role, the successful candidate will report to the WM APAC CIO based in Hong Kong and be a part of the APAC WM IT management team. He/she will face off to the CEO of Hub based in Singapore.

Head of Japan Technology

In addition to the functional role, the successful candidate will act as Head of Japan Technology. The Japan office has 150 Technology staff supporting the three business divisions, namely Investment Bank, Global Asset Management and Wealth Management, reporting into APAC CIO/COO and locally to Japan COO.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the two roles include the following but not limited to:

• Leading a team of 30+ staffs in the 4 hub locations and leverage the regional team for other deliveries

• Act as primary face-off to local regulator and ensure that our regulatory obligations are met

• Act as primary face-off for Technology to Japan CEO, COO and other executives. Provide leadership to the local Japan Technology such as;

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a very thorough understanding of the following disciplines:

• WM Business – either with securities processing or investment advisory or order entry, products, etc.

• Project Management / Delivery – Solid competence and project life cycle, including requirements gathering and analysis, design specification, prototyping and coding to the design spec, testing the system produced systematically against the original design, source code control, release management, defect tracking, and production support. The successful candidate must have proven record in a large scale implementation

• Technical Knowledge/Skills– Reasonable understanding on technology such as Sybase/Oracle, C/Java, middleware such as MQ, and technology trends such as virtualisation

• People Management/Leadership – the successful candidate must have prior experience in leading a team of at least 20+. The candidate also needs to be experienced in building up a competent team, provide management oversight for all IT staffs in Japan office, and assist the functional line managers on their staff’s development

• Excellent communication skills – especially verbal communication skills such as influencing skills. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and build direct relationships with the client/stakeholders at local and regional level

• Outsourcing – Experienced in utilising outsource vendors under offshore operating model, setting up of KPI’s and how to apply different outsourcing models such as managed service, staff aug, fixed price, etc.

• Financial Management – Understands total cost of ownership and how it affects bottom line of the business. Drive efficiency by introducing best practice of technology. Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset and challenge status quo or business case where it doesn't make sens

• Risks – Experienced in dealing with local regulators, drive audit/remediation actions to closure

Other preferences in priority:

• Fluent in Japanese and English, ideally native level Japanese language skill

• Educated overseas or worked abroad

• Have some experience working for WM business or WM aligned functions , at least with IB
