Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, operational, credit, compliance, regulatory, market and reputational risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join the Australian Risk team in the role of Head of Security and Fraud Risk (SFR).
The SFR function provides a range of risk management services in the disciplines of fraud risk management, security intelligence, physical security risk management, crises management and information security across Australia. Reporting to the Head of SFR Asia-Pacific and locally to the Chief Risk Officer, this role has primary responsibility for protecting HSBC staff, assets, premises and information.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Australian SFR team of eleven staff, including eight direct reports;
- Designing, implementing and managing strategies to reduce company risk of financial loss and reputational damage from serious financial crime, including the risk of terrorism, organised crime and hostile individuals and groups;
- Testing and implementing appropriate, practical and cost effective counter-measures (including technological solutions) that enable the business to operate as efficiently as possible in the current and future working environments;
- Co-ordinating and managing security policy, staffing and processes within Australia;
- Initiating and supervising investigations into activity affecting, or potentially affecting HSBC;
- Monitoring and providing intelligence from open, commercial, government and other sources on the threat to HSBC and its operations, providing intelligence to senior management where required;
- Ensuring contingency plans are devised, implemented and tested to deal with potential major incidents;
- Pro-actively managing relationships across the business with senior stakeholders, ensuring all teams are effectively trained to detect and prevent fraud;
- Ensuring common standards of activity and reporting are applied across the country, in line with Regional and Group requirements;
- Developing and maintaining effective liaison with appropriate regulatory, law enforcement and security agencies.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience;
- Extensive experience in fraud risk management including security intelligence, physical security risk management, crises management and information security management;
- A demonstrated understanding of the political, social and economic conditions of the financial services environment in regards to security and risk management;
- Considerable leadership experience with the ability to exercise strong management skills across a broad team;
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance business, technology, and operational efficiencies versus the risk and cost of mitigation of potential threat;
- The ability to form effective relationships and exercise influence at the most senior levels;
- Existing relationships with regulators, law enforcement and security agencies highly beneficial.
