Head of Trade Accounting
EDF Man is one of the world’s leading traders of agricultural commodities; we are looking to recruit a Head of Trade Accounting to support our worldwide sugar trading business which operates in over 20 countries managing sugar procurement, production and distribution, with significant strategic growth ambitions for the future.
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a challenging role which offers a broad spectrum of responsibilities, scope, and commercial activity. A primary objective is to lead a team of trade accountants in the provision of high quality value added financial analysis and insight to support the trading management team.
The role requires a high level of interaction with the Sugar Division’s trading business unit, its related operations and other departments within the EDF Man Group. This is a significant “hands on” role requiring flexibility to handle detailed transactional work as well as higher level analysis and review. A key element of the role will be to drive the upgrade of the trade accounting processes and systems.
We need an individual with proven experience of operating within a fast paced international trading environment with a proactive approach to transactional activities, financial reporting and control, continuous improvement and business performance initiatives. The job holder should have experience of leading a team and will take management responsibility for 5 Trade Accountants. We are looking for candidates who will actively develop a strong team.
This is a key role representing part of the succession planning pool of talent for the Sugar Trading Finance team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with the trading leadership team to provide support through financial and management information analysis and reports.
- Timely and accurate PL reporting for the global trading regions.
- Develop a consistent and comprehensive set of standards and reports for the trading operation to improve financial and commercial support services to the business.
- Ensure compliance with minimum control standards and risk requirements.
- Review and control the inventory positions in major worldwide logistic locations.
- Review and authorise key daily cash flow movements.
- Proactive support for traders and operations, providing all relevant financial information and responding to ad hoc requests.
- Actively drive process improvement, automation and system upgrade.
- Budgeting and forecasting.
- Staff management and development of a strong team of Trade Accountants including mentoring and performance management.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- The individual undertaking this role would be a fully qualified Chartered Accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent) with solid trade accounting experience preferably gained in a physical commodity trading environment.
- Minimum 7 years of post-qualified experience gained within a global trading environment is essential.
- The individual should be able to apply their knowledge and experience to provide robust financial analysis to support commercial solutions.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and seek continuous improvement to reporting and control processes
- Ability to analyse financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Ability to lead and motivate a strong, performance-orientated team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A ‘hands on’ practical approach is required for this role.
- The role requires a well organised and efficient individual who can manage competing deadlines with strict time constraints.
- Flexible, proactive and willing to take on additional responsibilities as the department goes through change.
