The Head Operational Risk Control - IPS is responsible for providing an independent assessment of the Business Area's Operational Risk profile and risk-taking activities to protect the firm's reputation and long-term financial results.
He/She further provides independent and proactive advice to the Head Investment Products and Services (IPS) and the IPS management team for their effective management of Operational Risks.
The successful candidate combines sound Wealth Management experience and excellent investment product knowledge with strong leadership skills and credibility when dealing with the business.
The role reports directly to the Head Operational Risk Control Wealth Management Swiss Banking (WMSB).

Key responsibilities include:

* Partnering with the business in developing and implementing appropriate policies, processes and procedures to identify, assess, mitigate, monitor and report material Operational Risks within IPS
* Acting as a Subject Matter Expert on Operational Risk and presenting an independent view on the Business Area's risk management and control framework and identified weaknesses to the IPS Management Committee
* Recommending remedial action to improve quality and effectiveness of IPS' risk management and control environment and critically assessing progress of remediation activities undertaken by the Business Area
* Continually assessing the external and internal environment to ensure that emerging risks are proactively identified and appropriately managed. This includes changes and emerging threats in the worldwide fraud arena
* Providing strategic leadership and direction, influencing, motivating and developing the Operational Risk team and proactively undertaking talent management
* Contributing to the strategic direction of Operational Risk Control WMSB through membership of the Management Committee

The candidate is required to travel as necessary to enable successful execution of the role; however, travel is not expected to exceed 10%.

Communication skills

* Engage with, and provide support to the Head Investment Products and Services and the IPS Management team on Operational Risk matters and their impact on the Business Area
* Articulate an independent and balanced opinion in both written and oral form on identified material deficiencies and provide compelling solutions in a succinct manner;
* Develop and maintain an effective network of relationships, principally within the Business Area globally and within other areas of the bank, where necessary;
* Present confidently to both small groups and wider audiences.

Analytical skills

* Analyze and assess risks associated with the IPS – and more broadly – with the Wealth Management Business
* Perform detailed as well as ad-hoc analysis of complex Operational Risk matters in equal quality and with equal effectiveness
* Evaluate the effectiveness of management processes and controls designed to address identified risks
* Provide practical, innovative, and value-adding solutions to deficiencies identified
* Critically assess trend data and developments in specific business areas as well as in the macro-environment to proactively identify drivers of increasing risk exposure

Technical Skills

* Understand the significant risks that the Business Area is exposed to and the impact of external events and internal changes on these risks
* Sound understanding of the Swiss Banking Secrecy and other critical Wealth Management regulatory requirements and their implications for relevant cross-divisional business processes
* Excellent project management skills and a proven track record in driving forward change programmes in distributed organisations

* Provide strategic leadership and direction through influencing, motivating and developing teams
* Plan strategic work streams and ensure that these are delivered in a timely fashion
* Co-ordinate and perform (Operational Risk) reviews on a global level managing both team requirements and client expectations
* Good time management skills completing assignments and producing reports on time and be able to prioritize work effectively
* Customer focused, acting with integrity and honesty.

Experience/Qualifications

* 10+ years of experience with a leading financial institution.
* Thorough understanding of the International Wealth Management Business, its operational processes and Investment Products.
* Significant experience in an international business community
* Significant experience in the business of other divisions, particularly the Investment Bank
* Substantial experience with managing an organization within a matrix structure
* Fluent English and German speaker
