ThyssenKrupp Elevator, an international leader in elevator installations, modernization, and maintenance, is seeking a Health and Safety Officer who desires to join a dynamic team

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

·          Develop and implement Corporate and Provincial Health Safety and Environment programs, policies, and processes to ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

·          Ensure legislative compliance for all health, safety and environment related policies, programs, documents, training, records, etc.

·          Acting as certified Management Representative, facilitate site JHSC activities including but not limited to schedule meetings, maintain meeting minutes, follow-up with management where required/appropriate, overseeing workplace inspections, accident investigations, etc.

·          Assist in health and safety program through development, implementation and maintenance of all safety, policies, procedures, training and other required documentation.

·          Develop, implement, schedule and conduct standard "refresher" training programs (i.e. WHMIS).

·          Maintain all accident/incident records and facilitate incident investigations.

·          Facilitate, submit, maintain and manage provincial insurance claims including working with supervisors/managers and overseeing Return to Work program.

·          Working with JHSC, based on safety records, communicate to site supervision/management areas of concern, areas for improvement and recommendations to address same.

·          Prepare and analyze monthly reports, by site, and submit to respective JHSC for analysis and recommendations.  Submit reports to management as requested.        

·          Prepare all safety communication materials/announcements.

·          Recommend safety supplies/personal protective equipment to eliminate/reduce hazards and potential for injuries.

·          Coordinate any and all external health and safety training (i.e., Part I, Part II Certification, First Aid/CPR training).

·          Occasional travel, which may include overnight travel and extended stays, (i.e. to other locations and sites) is a requirement of this position.

·          Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.

·          Other duties as assigned.

 

Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other related field is required.

CRSP designation is an asset but not necessary.

 

Experience

 

·          3+ years experience in Health, Safety and Environment specifically training, incident investigation, record keeping, report preparation and analysis.

·          Proven experience in Construction Industry.

·          Expertise in Health, Safety and Environment including a thorough knowledge of applicable legislation (i.e. OHSA and EPA).

·          Previous experience developing and implementing HSE programs, policies and procedures in multiple provinces.

·          Previous experience dealing with confidential information with diplomacy, tact and sensitivity.

·          Previous experience with insurance claims management and Return to Work program management which includes a thorough understanding of, and previous experience with, related legislation (i.e. ESA, Human Rights, Privacy, etc).

·          Proven ability to work well with others at all levels of an organization.

·          Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

·          JHSC member certification.

·          Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

·          Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite).

·          Proven project management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
