Health & Benefits Actuarial Consultant Job in London, Ontario Canada
An Actuarial Health and Benefits Associate develops innovative ideas and customized solutions that enhance our clients’ ability to effectively manage, monitor, an control their active and retiree benefit programs. To fulfill this role, the associate will:
- Advise clients on benefit trends, plan design, financial arrangements, insurer marketplace and RFPs, and accounting rules and legislation, including the valuations of post retirement and post employment benefit programs
- Assist senior consultants with helping clients set longer term strategy and direction
- Assist client teams with benefit plan cost analyses and financial projections, renewal negotiations, competitive plan benchmarking, marketing projects, employee cost-sharing strategies, vendor and performance management, cost containment strategies
- Assess liabilities and expenses associated with post-retirement and post-employment benefit plans - under Canadian, US, and/or international accounting standards
- Perform valuation reviews, financial modeling and pricing results
- Provide financial projections for various aspects of active employee and retiree benefit programs (most notably healthcare)
- Communicate effectively with clients
- Mentor staff by providing training and guidance in project management
- Serve as a recognized technical resource and support to local and regional client teams
- BA/BS degree required, preferably in actuarial science, accounting, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance or business (Actuarial designation preferred (ASA, or significant progress towards designation)
- Prepared to achieve Life License within a year
- 2-3 years of experience in valuation and accounting of pension or preferably non-pension benefit plans and health and group benefits
- Superior actuarial, financial analysis, analytical, problem solving and accounting skills
- Strong planning, communication, and listening skills
- Proven skills in working on large, complex projects
- Able to manage, motivate, and mentor more junior level staff
- Demonstrated ability to work in and lead project teams
- Experience with and effective at working in a collaborative, team environment
- Understanding of employee benefit plans and current healthcare issues
- Detail oriented with excellent project management skills
