Practice Leader – Americas Healthcare Biomedical Research

Location: New York, New York

Our Americas Healthcare Biomedical (HC) Practice is our largest and most dynamic growth platform, covering the entire healthcare and life sciences industries including drugs and devices, healthcare services, and the regulatory issues impacting the healthcare industry.  Gerson Lehrman Group is widely seen as the premier forum for opinion leaders to leverage their expertise to shape the world’s most important decisions surrounding Healthcare industry and policy.  We are seeking a multi-talented leader to join an impressive team and build a career with us.

Responsibilities:

The leader of our HC Americas practice is one of our most senior business professionals, and has four central responsibilities.

First, they are responsible for intellectual leadership across content and compliance.  Successful Practice Leaders maintain a sophisticated understanding of the business models, issues, and trends of the sector.  They also maintain relationships with many of the most influential investors, business thinkers, consultants, and observers of the sector.  They understand the nuances and strength of our business model and put the integrity of the GLG research platform first in every instance.

Second, they are responsible for live meetings.  Successful Practice Leaders spend significant time hand-crafting small-group meetings at which essential conversations take place among the most influential thinkers and decision-makers in the sector.  Our Healthcare live meeting business is one of the firm’s oldest and largest revenue generators and occurs in key cities as well as at major medical conferences around the country and the world.  Its stewardship is a critical component of the job of Practice Leader.

Third, they are responsible for commercial leadership.  Successful Practice Leaders use their stature to develop trust-based relationships in the marketplace, which drive sustainable revenue and EBIT growth for the firm.  They do this in collaboration with their colleagues on the Sales force, through their personal relationships, and as part of their outreach to leading experts in the sector.  Within the Healthcare space, this means driving revenue growth and commercial success within the institutional investment community, the professional services community and, importantly, the Life Sciences segment including major pharmaceutical companies.

Fourth, they are responsible for personal leadership.  Successful Practice Leaders are effective operators. This means that they understand GLG’s values and strategy.  For their small team of direct reports, they conduct clear-eyed evaluations and concretely communicate performance expectations.  They push the entire organization to steadily improve, including attracting new talent and managing out low performers.  They support sales and fulfillment teams in driving revenue, service quality, and inventory growth.
