Hedge Fund – Server Administrator recruitment

My client is seeking an experienced Server administrator to join their IT Infrastructure team. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the administration and ongoing development of the firm’s core technology platform. This platform is primarily based on Citrix, Microsoft and VMware solutions including Windows, Active Directory and Exchange. The team are also responsible for the NetApp filers used for data storage and the administration of the WAN, LAN and other communications services.

The IT Department currently has 18 employees of which 8 are in the Infrastructure team and 10 are in the Development team, the majority of whom are based in the London office. The successful candidate will be joining a group specifically responsible for the administration of the server environment and ensuring maximum availability of the existing services in both production and DR environments. The role will involve close co-operation with Infrastructure and Development colleagues and will require an individual willing to take the lead on designing, implementing and integrating required technical solutions.
 

Responsibilities:

1. 3rd line support of the Citrix, Microsoft, VMware vSphere and HP server infrastructure including Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange Server 2007 and Active Directory.

2. Administration of Network Appliance (NetApp) storage systems

3. Application support to ensure the high availability of business systems. This will involve working closely with both internal developers and external companies to perform troubleshooting and fault diagnosis.

4. Project work within a formal framework to evaluate, design and implement new software and systems.

5. Testing and deployment of updates and upgrades to systems in order to remain in line with manufacturers’ recommendations.

6. Working with 3rd parties and suppliers to select and implement new technologies.

7. Responsibility for ensuring that all production services are replicated and maintained within a disaster recovery site and that the failover process is documented and tested.

Essential Technical Skills:

• Management and administration of Windows 2003 and 2008 R2 operating systems
• Management and administration of HP server hardware
• Management and administration of VMWare vSphere
• Microsoft Exchange 2007 management and administration
• Management and administration of Active Directory
• Support of the Microsoft IIS web server platform
• Detailed understanding of how DNS and DHCP work
• Knowledge of scripting technologies such as Powershell and VBScript
• Management of backup and restore applications
• Experience of environments using formal change and release management processes
• Fully conversant with disaster recovery solutions and technologies
 

Desirable Technical Skills:

• Management and administration of NetApp appliances or similar centralised storage
• Citrix XenApp management and configuration
• Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2 support and administration
• Support and configuration of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager or similar monitoring tools
• Support and configuration of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager
• Support and configuration of Microsoft SharePoint 2010
• Support and configuration of Business Objects Enterprise and Data Services
