Job Posting Number: 11421BR Job Posting Title: HIMS Spec III Work Site: MN - Rochester Building: Harwick Building Department: Release of Information-Phone Unit Job Description: HIMS Specialist III is responsible for responding to telephone requests for medical records and x-rays. Explains Mayo policy and costs regarding release of information. Determines what information may be given in confidential matters. Determines medical emergency and concurs when provider is unable to obtain a patient's consent. Requests patient authorization and verifies authorizations are correct according to established Institution and department policies and MN statutes. Has an excellent understanding of legal and legislation requirements for release of patient information. 010416-42033 Basic Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Three years of previous experience with medical records and an EMR or RHIT is required. Formal training as medical secretary or administrative assistant may be considered in lieu of RHIT. Other Qualifications: Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to relate to and communicate with others as incumbent has considerable contact with multiple medical centers, patients and physicians. Must demonstrate good judgment in providing the appropriate screening for and proper disposition of calls received. Must have excellent organization skills and able to perform multiple duties simultaneously. Keyboarding skills necessary; able to type 40-50 wpm. Mayo-offered or college classes in Access, Excel, Outlook, Word, medical terminology, pathophysiology, legal aspects of health information strongly recommended. Exercise independent judgment in disclosure of highly confidential patient information with prior knowledge of legal policies (Minnesota Statutes and Federal regulations for release of drug, alcohol, and mental health), HIPAA, and Mayo's policies for release of confidential information and patients rights beneficial. Formal technical training of one year is preferred; patient appointment coordinator experience is a plus. Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Hours/Pay Period: 80 Schedule Details: Mon-Fri 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Compensation Detail: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
