Histologist
Adecco Medical and Science, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of medical and scientific professionals, has an immediate opening for a Histologist on a part-time, contract opportunity in San Diego, CA. The Histologist will be responsible for accessioning and processing formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tumor samples (microtome sectioning and histological staining). Responsibilities: Assess quality and appropriateness of specimens received and takes appropriate action if acceptable standard is not met Performs embedding, microtomy and staining of Histology and Cytology Specimens to meet established productivity and quality standards Perform gross description on small biopsies Maintains neat, organized and legible written records Maintains a clean organized work area Performs Cytology processing as necessary Requirements: Bachelor?s Degree in Biological Science is preferred, but not required Certification by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required 5+ years of laboratory experience in the industry is preferred Expertise in histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, microtome, sectioning, histochemical and staining; as well as know-how of light microscopy, microscope imaging and quantitative histological techniques Must be highly organized, be able to work independently, follow standard operating procedures Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when mixing solutions and reagents, cutting and embedding tissues, and distinguishing fine gradations of color when preparing specimens for review. Effective communication and interpersonal skills necessary to interact professionally and courteously with management and other personnel. Must be able to communicate effectively by telephone, e-mail and in person with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
