Overview Produces consistently high quality tissue slides ready for light microscopic examination by pathologists. Duties and Responsibilities Prepare surgical and autopsy specimens for histologic examination. Process tissue, including associated data entry. Accurately embed fixed tissues. Cut consistently high quality tissue sections. Stain and cover slip glass slides, including manual and automated H and E stains, special histochemical stains and immunohistochemical stains. Participate in Histology QA and QC practices and procedures. Help maintain histology laboratory equipment. Assist in training new histology personnel and medical technology students. Exercise independent judgment, responsibility and problem-solving ability in daily work and develop new laboratory procedures as directed by the Division Supervisor. Demonstrate working knowledge of Anatomic Pathology Information System, Including ability to accurately accession specimens. Participate in CME and maintain appropriate certification and licensure. Follow all hospital and department procedures and protocols. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1-3 years of prior experience preferred. Strong analytical, computer, and communication skills. Required Licensure/Certification Skills New York State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist within 2 years of employment. ASCP Histotechnologist or HTL certification preferred.
