Homeowner Claims Adjuster

Job Summary

Obtains and records required loss information from the insured. Under close supervision, investigates, evaluates, negotiates and settles homeowner's property/personal property claims, including adjustment to conclusion; involves low- to high-complexity claims. Coordinates task assignments of claims with field adjusters. Is the owning adjuster for all claims assigned, other than those falling outside their scope of authority. This position is expected to progress to the competency level of a Claims Specialist. May be required to assign, coordinate and oversee independent adjuster assignments.

Essential Functions / Principal Responsibilities
• Obtains and records first notice of loss. Determines and advises of all applicable coverage for the loss. May be required to transfer claim to Senior Homeowner Claims Specialist.
• Arranges all emergency services required to protect the property from further harm; accommodates the needs of the insured.
• With close supervision, investigates, evaluates, negotiates and settles homeowner 1st- and 3rd-party property claims. This includes resolving all questions of coverage associated with the claim. Claims range from low- to high-complexity claims up to $100,000. In territories without field staff, will be required to review and adjust contractor estimates.
• Analyzes applicable state's policy and endorsements to determine appropriate coverage.
• Analyzes claim to determine coverage recommendation.
• Recognizes and prepares file for subrogation.

Preferred:
• Knowledge of homeowner policies and procedures
• Knowledge of Xactimate repair estimating system
• Knowledge of home construction
Education, Work Experience, Licenses Certifications

Required:
• BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to acquire DOI adjusting license in the states where required
Preferred:
• 0 -2 years claims experience with preferred emphasis on homeowner claims
