As part of the University’s Indigenous Employment Strategy, we have an Apprentice Fitter / Machinist position available. Applications are invited from interested, motivated and committed applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.

 

The position will be based in the School of Civil Engineering workshops. Indentured for four years, you will receive on-the-job training in fitting and machining. Additionally, you will complete TAFE studies as required by the Department of Technical and Further Education and this apprenticeship position.

 

This is a challenging and rewarding role where you will perform general workshop duties (under supervision) and develop the essential skill needed in Fitting and Machining. As you progress, you will be expected to carry out more complex duties and eventually move toward working under general direction and only routine supervision. Along with new skills, you may have the opportunity to gain new licences (truck, forklift etc) when opportunities arise.

 

To qualify for this position, you must be:

·         of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background

·         a team player with a demonstrated interest in Fitting, Machining and Workshop Fabrication and Assembly

·         able to take direction and be a practical and flexible problem solver

·         able to work in a team environment

·         able to learn and apply safe work practices is imperative

·         completed Year 10 Certificate.

Remuneration package: $26,731 – $53,463 p.a. (which includes base salary $22,588 - $45,177 p.a., leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation). You will commence at the base of the salary range, and progress up the range with every completed year of the apprenticeship program.
