Indirect Tax Adviser, Global businesses (Trading)

Providing indirect tax advice and compliance/risk management in support of our global Trading business, you will be a key member of the UK Indirect Tax Team.  Shell as a company is one of the biggest collectors of indirect taxes in the world, and this is an ideal opportunity for someone to commence/continue their in-house indirect tax career within one of the largest corporate groups in the world.

Accountabilities:

• Provide pro-active indirect tax advice (VAT, Customs Excise Duties) to the global Trading business (main focus of the role).

• Provide pro-active indirect tax compliance management and risk management in support of Trading.

• Maintain a good understanding of indirect tax-impacting end-to-end processes, and ensure that risks are understood and appropriately mitigated to ensure fiscal compliance.

• Monitor the operation and ensure the adequacy of the control framework, ensuring any necessary improvements are made as a result of issues arising.

• Support the optimisation of indirect tax-related data in systems to meet local fiscal and legal requirements.

• Provide regular, periodic training and awareness sessions on indirect tax legislation and practice.

• Actively seek and where appropriate ensure implementation of added value opportunities to pay less indirect tax, minimise indirect tax losses/receivables and optimise indirect tax cash flow.

• Effectively network with, provide information to and manage stakeholders to keep them informed of indirect tax matters affecting their businesses, functions or countries.

Experience Qualifications required

• You will be university degree educated, with a professional tax qualification and member of a recognised accounting or tax professional body.

• Extensive indirect tax experience working for another multi-national, or a professional firm as an indirect tax adviser, with up-to-date knowledge of indirect tax law and practice.

• Experience dealing and negotiating with and influencing fiscal authorities.

• Evaluation and management of indirect tax risks, analyzing and imaginatively solving problems, making recommendations that are objective, practical, technically appropriate and supportive of the Business

• Networking with stakeholders and meeting their requirements. 

• Languages: English – written and verbal fluency.

You will be a self-starter, working systematically without close supervision, capable of prioritizing tasks, adapting to new or changing circumstances and be a highly effective team player. You will be able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
