Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Rio Tinto's Technology and Innovation Group is partnering with Kennecott Eagle Minerals Company (KEMC) to complete and handover the Eagle Development Project. To support the project, Rio Tinto is seeking an experienced Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to join the Project Development team. The Eagle Project is a high grade nickel deposit located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The facilities to be developed will include an underground mine and surface facilities with a separate mill facility to produce copper and nickel concentrates to be delivered to third party smelters and refiners. The primary purpose of the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic is to provide all mechanical duties related to but not limited to the mechanics of all equipment and processes in the water treatment plant setting including installation, diagnosis, and repair of equipment. Mechanical equipment includes submersible, centrifugal, chemical feed, double diaphragm, progressive cavity pumps, centrifugal and squirrel cage fans, agitators, mixers, precision coupling alignment, belt alignment, heat exchangers (shell tube, plate frame, phase change, HVAC plenum). Piping systems including butterfly, ball, and hand valves both air and electrical actuation. The role will have the following accountabilities: Must take a personal and active approach to health, safety and environment and understand and follow all state, federal and company health, safety and environmental requirements. Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities. Complete work orders, inspections, trouble shoot equipment, and document equipment conditions and performance. Ability to repair, install and evaluate needs to perform maintenance activities. Assist with the installation, inspections, and repair of site equipment. Learn and use CMMS system (SAP) for execution of 6 step maintenance program. Capture and maintain all corrective and preventive maintenance performed in this system. Complies with schedule provided by planner/supervisor and follows Rio Tinto maintenance practices. Be aware and comply with HSE requirements as relevant to the specific work performed in your role. Undertake all required HSEQ training. Follow all documented procedures; only undertake tasks that you are competent to perform; ensure risks are assessed through the TRACK/JHA process. Be aware of what constitutes a change and the need to discuss change with leaders; implement approved changes. Support site monitoring activities (hygiene monitoring, annual health surveillance etc). Candidates that apply should have the following qualifications: H.S. Diploma or GED (trade school or vocational schools preferred) Six (6) years experience in the mechanical/maintenance craft or a combination of education and experience in the field to satisfy requirement. Technical school degree in industrial maintenance preferred. Proficiency in trouble shooting, diagnosing, repairing, and replacing pumps, valves, piping, electric motors, and other related equipment. Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work orders safely.
