The Infrastructure and Storage Engineer will be part of a team whose main responsibility is over-seeing the Storage Area Network, Virtualization and Server infrastructure. Responsibilities include the design, maintenance and full ownership of system components. Storage infrastructure includes Hitachi VSP, Hitachi AMS, Hitachi NAS, NetApp NAS and Brocade SAN switches. Server virtualization infrastructure is built on IBM blade server platform running VMWare vSphere hypervisor.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, plan, execute, and support Storage infrastructure related projects, specifically focused on supporting our virtualization platform and our industry specific applications.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for architectural and design reviews, and technology selection with respect to the infrastructure environment.
- Interact with server OS administrators, database administrators and project managers to insure proper business alignment between business strategy and infrastructure needs, goals and initiatives.
- Monitoring the health of the Storage and Virtualization systems.
- Provide Provisioning of storage and virtual resources.
- Troubleshoot system and storage connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot performance issues for Storage and Virtualization systems.
- Generate reports, both ad-hoc and scheduled, using the various tools available.
- Apply firmware upgrades for the multiple components.
- Work with vendors to help resolve on-going issues.
- Provide on call assistance and support of production business systems at all times.
- Perform additional tasks as needed from the Manager Infrastructure and Storage.
Skills:
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a diversified workload with deadlines with widely varying time horizons
- Demonstrated ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reports, technical diagrams, and flowcharts
- Demonstrated ability to use problem solving techniques to identify, scope, and resolve difficult, intermittent, and other technical issues.
- Ability to clearly communicate and document designs and processes
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows OS administration.
- Network troubleshooting skills (IP issues, NIC teaming).
- Familiarity and Knowledge of Chassis/Blade Server hardware.
Experience:
- Bachelor degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing large Enterprise VMware (ESXESXiVirtual Center) environments.
- 5+ years of Storage and SAN administration, preferably working with Hitachi and/or NetApp arrays.
- 5+ years of SAN switch administration, preferably Brocade switches.
- 5+ years of experience with VMWare high availability technologies. (i.e. HA, DRS, vMotion and Storage DRS)
- 3+ years of design work in Storage and Virtualization.
- 2+ years of performance and troubleshooting of storage connectivity issues.
