Infrastructure Solution Architecture Manager

Job Description:

 

One of the largest global organizations is looking for a Solution Architect Manager to be responsible for managing a team of technical architects that work with Business Solutions teams to provide application architecture solutions for multiple product areas that both meet business and application requirements as well as conform to architecture and security standards and best practices.

 

The manager role will be considered a technical subject matter expert within the Solutions Architecture discipline.  This role will be multidimensional in nature understanding both technology, and the business needs behind the technology.  The ability to both understand and critique architectural designs from within their program areas is critical.

 

Role Specific Responsibilities:

        Provide guidance and leadership by reviewing and critiquing architectural designs within their span      of control

        Conduct all pre-meetings for the Architecture Review Board

        Build upon existing technical competencies

        Provide advice and counsel to relevant business solutions teams

        Ensure that all applications and designs within the portfolio have accounted for high availability, recovery, performance, and monitoring, as well as operations design

        Takes the lead by identifying and working with other policy and standards owners to get in front of any perspective demand for new technologies or policies

        Understand processing and capacity requirements and establish an architectural approach for each product initiative to meet agreed service level expectations

        Understand, define and establish an architectural approach to meet privacy and confidentiality requirements for each of the program initiatives, which includes

        Define any and all requirements that could influence hosting decisions based on data privacy or confidentiality

        Define requirements that could lead to a distributed data solution

        Responsible for server, storage and overall infrastructure sizing and build specifications - including load balancing and clustering - for all product initiatives, which includes

        Define hardware sizing to meet application requirements and associated capacity requirements

        Design load balancing and clustering solutions as per architecture standards

        Execute and implement defined standards and best practices as agreed through the Enterprise IT Architecture process, which includes application, infrastructure, data and security requirements

        Provide leadership, management, and be a mentor of other architects outside of your span of control

        Work horizontally across the organization, and even outside the organization if necessary     

        Participate in the building of business plans, strategic directions, standards, processes, and procedures within the CTO Applications Infrastructure Architecture responsibility

        Provide input to financial and budgeting activities

 

People Management:

        Provide the management for a team of technical architects and conduct performance reviews

        Act as a mentor to architects both inside and outside of the organization

        Provide input to hiring, staffing, management, development, and retention of all reporting personnel

        Take the lead role when working with teams to ensure application and business requirements are clearly understood and then translated in to the appropriate technical solution, meeting both internal architecture/security standards as well as industry best practices

        Represent the organization’s brand in a professional manner in other professional organizations and peer industry organizations

 

Knowledge Sharing / Documentation:

        Establish architecture standards, and best practices within the scope or the team, or organization

        Coordinate the creation of technical standards, policies, and knowledge sharing

        Ensure that documentation for any architectural review is accurate and complete

        Ensure all relevant architecture documentation is placed into our repository

        Develop and publish implementation roadmaps (calendar of events) for each program within their    span of control

        Complete all necessary documentation for our monthly reports

 

Education (degree): Bachelor’s Degree - Specific focus in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications.

 

Technical Skills:

        Experience in designing, implementing, and deploying applications level Infrastructure solutions to support global applications in a Microsoft-oriented computing environment

        Practical experience as well as applied knowledge of general infrastructure components and techniques.  Must be more than capable of providing professional advice and guidance to other technical and business professionals.  The following technologies or disciplines are, but not limited to:

o   System sizing and configurations

o   Load balancing

o   Clustering

o   Virtualization

o   Performance management

o   Capacity Analysis

o   Security

o   SOA

        Application management technologies

        Possesses the ability to integrate existing technology, as well as drive new technologies into an architectural design for a given system or systems

        Experience in driving, and charting the course for large scale technology deployments as well as global communications and tracking

        Have knowledge of, and the aptitude for driving, emerging technology solutions and industry trends into DTS

        Solid understanding of networking technologies, including switches, routers, firewalls, proxy servers, etc.

        Proven experience designing solutions that utilize database technologies, especially Microsoft SQL Server

        Familiarity with web development technologies, especially ASP.NET and J2EE

        Familiar with general architecture, operations, and deployment methodologies and techniques (e.g.: TOGAF, Zachman, ITIL, MOF, etc.)

        Expected to operate and communicate in a globally diverse environment.  The ability to effectively cooperate and collaborate with many different constituencies, both business and information management, with different interests is essential to be successful

        The ability to lead, not dictate, multinational teams in the firm's strategic direction and get the job done, sometimes without the requisite authority, is a key requirement

        Ability to work and lead technical discussions with multinational operations staff located in different countries and time zones
