Responsibilities

Do you have experience developing scenario-driven, technology-based simulation and gaming training activities that make the student an interactive participant? Would you like to spearhead multi-branching, multi-tiered learning simulation and games efforts for thousands of civilian and military personnel across the world? Then, this may be the job for you!

The National Security Agency's Associate Directorate for Education and Training (ADET) has an immediate opening for an experienced, highly motivated Instructional Systems Design expert with a strong background in Educational Simulations and Serious Games. If selected, you will join NSA's Cryptologic Learning Design Innovation Center, a dynamic organization established to address mission critical, high priority training needs. You will use state-of-the-art technology and techniques to develop advanced interactive learning solutions for thousands of military and civilian cryptologic personnel across the NSA/CSS Enterprise, the Cryptologic Training System and other Department of Defense and Intelligence Community components.

As Lead Instructional Systems Designer for NSA's games and simulations training efforts, you will collaborate internally and externally with mission customers, subject-matter experts and contractor staff to develop and implement high quality learning solutions. Activities will include (but are not limited to):

-Develop ADET's strategy for the use of games and simulations for learning and development activities;

-Lead ADET's efforts to integrate new technology to support games and simulations;

-Expand on existing games and simulation design and development to lay the foundation for future course development;

-Design and develop multi-branching, multi-tiered learning simulation and gaming activities;

-Guide and direct the efforts of contractor personnel (instructional designers, computer scientists, and graphic artists) to design, develop and deploy learning games and simulations;

-Create demos, tutorials, templates, job aids, business rules and process documents to expand and maintain NSA's gaming and simulation training;

-Assess customer training needs, define training goals and objectives, and determine appropriate training delivery methods, make vs. buy options, and evaluation/assessment strategies;

-Grow a Serious Games and Simulation user community across the NSA Enterprise.

Handle day-to-day activities associated with implementation of employee development programs (for example, schedule activities, coordinate or provide feedback to participants).
- Conduct training needs assessments.
- Design, develop, document, and maintain training courses, interventions, or employee development programs.
- Select and implement training technologies (for example, e-learning, learning management systems).
- Develop training curricula (for example, content, learning objectives).
- Produce training materials (for example, handouts, presentation slides, online course materials).
- Deliver formal training.
- Design and develop tests (for example, language and math proficiency tests).
- Administer and score tests.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on test performance.
- Evaluate training (courses, methods, materials, content, etc.).
- View computer screen continuously for two hours or more.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree in Instructional Design/Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science or a closely related field, and 5 years of recent experience developing e-learning and blended learning solutions for adults in the workplace, to include scenario-driven games and simulation training activities. Candidates must have a broad understanding of Instructional Design Models, Adult Learning Theory, e-Learning Principles, User Interface design theory and best practices, and human-computer interaction.

A variety of experiences working with Virtual Worlds, creating branching scenarios, and implementing Social Media for learning are a must, as are knowledge of Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and proven experience creating courses to meet Section 508 compliance. Applicants must have strong verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated focus on quality assurance. Project management expertise and experience in either the Intelligence Community or Department of Defense are preferred.

Candidates should have expertise and experience using Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate, Presenter, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash; general proficiency with HTML, CSS, and XML; and familiarity with programming languages, to include C/C++/C#, JavaScript, and ActionScript 3.0. Skills with 3D graphics rendering and developing 3D environments are a plus.

Entry is with a high school diploma and 6 years of experience, or an Associate's degree and 5 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience, or a post-baccalaureate certificate and 4 years of experience, or a Master's degree and 2 years of experience, or a Doctoral degree.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Salary range: $89,033 - $136,771
