Position requires this position to work out of Gannett / USA TODAY HQ in McLean, VA. If applicable, some relocation assistance can be provided.
The IInterative News Designer will help USA TODAY communicate progressive ideas through clear, compelling infographics, maps, data visualizations, and other interactive media. The Interactive News Designer must have excellent technical and design skills, but also a strong sense of visual storytelling. Responsibilities include:
- Create interactive data visualizations, news apps, and information graphics using the latest modern browser development and design tools.
- Assist in defining, creating, developing, coordinating and implementing new ideas and technologies into USATODAY.com digital products.
- Strong conceptual skills and the ability to turn statistical information into opportunities for visual storytelling.
- Collaborate with other members of the team including journalists, researchers, designers, front-end and backend developers.
- Must be cognizant of the latest trends in telling visual stories on the web, tablet and mobile.
- Must keep abreast of the latest front-end technologies such as HTML 5 and CSS 3. An understanding of Java Script is a plus.
- The Interactive News Designer may have other responsibilities as assigned.
