Interdisciplinary Cultural Resources Program Manager

DUTIES: The incumbent serves as Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Cultural Resource Program Manager. As the parks expert on the National Historic Preservation Act and other cultural resources related laws, regulations and agency policies, the incumbent manages the regulatory compliance process and consultations with Native Americans and traditionally associated groups. The incumbent enhances the parks capacity to fulfill its cultural resources management program potential in multiple disciplines and integrates varied cultural resource activities into a cohesive program. The incumbent develops management strategies and implementation plans, and manages projects designed to assess the condition of cultural resources and to provide meaningful results to support higher-level decision making. The incumbent oversees data collection efforts and subsequent summarization and interpretation of the data to produce technical and layperson reports. Effectively presents science-based knowledge in multiple formats suited to target audiences. The incumbent identifies problems relating to cultural resource preservation and formulates solutions to alleviate or mitigate impacts to the resources. Through teamwork, the incumbent develops guidelines to deal with the more complex or unusual problems, or with novel, undeveloped or controversial aspects of cultural resources and their management. Novel approaches may lead to park or agency decisions to adopt new methods or technology to meet emerging needs and issues. As a Branch Chief, the incumbent supervises staff and is responsible for branch compliance with administrative controls. This position is located in the Division of Resources Management and Science.
