INTERMEDIATE POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER
Our client, of which primarily focuses on electrical or controls in nature, is looking for an Intermediate Power Systems Engineer for their Edmonton office. This includes all aspects of electrical power engineering, process control and automation.
Responsibilities:
- Oil Gas industry related power systems - pipeline, well site, gas plant
- Motor control and plant power design/implementation
- Industrial plant substation design and coordination
- Industrial plant low and medium voltage power distribution systems
- Various power system retrofits, studies, NFPA70E code implementations and overall system analysis
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor degree in Engineering, an Electrical Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent experience
- Current Alberta P.Eng or C.E.T status
- Five or more years or related power system experience
- Industrial power system design for low and medium voltage power distribution and switchgear
- General knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and other related standards/codes
- Development of construction packages including hands on design experience for the following drawing types (design only, CAD by others)
- Single Line Three Line Diagrams (5kV, 600V, 120V)
- Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting Layout
- Grounding Layout
- Panel Layout
- Cable Schedule
- Schematics (5kV, 600V, 120V)
- Interconnection Diagrams
- Building Elevations (Sections)
- Equipment Elevations (SWG, MCC)
- Understanding of the Arc Flash safety design, as associated with NFPA70E
- General knowledge of control system design and interfacing to power system equipment
- Generation of associated project documentation; studies, reports, analysis and specifications
Abilities:
- Good oral and written communication skills in English
- Structured system design experience, with a structured approach to problem solving, project execution and project management
- Ability to lead, motivate, and work within a technical team environment
- Ability and willingness to execute projects according to the client's defined Project Execution Methodology
- Proficiency with customer interface, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to project schedule, budget and project manpower planning
- Organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with computer operating systems, networks and electronic information handling
- Proficiency with a variety of Microsoft applications including Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, Visio, Projects and PowerPoint
- Ability to apply the latest technologies and methodologies to the design stages at the onset of the project, by applying independent thinking and visionary design
- Attention to detail, a healthy work ethic, and the ambition to grow within the company
