Position Description

Now is your opportunity to be a summer intern in Boeing, a cutting edge global aerospace company. Boeing is not only the leader in commercial airplanes but is also a leader in defense, space and security systems. The current 737, 747, 767 and 777 jetliners, the new 787 Dreamliner; the F/A-18 Super Hornet and the F-15 Strike Eagle fighters; the Apache, Chinook and V22 Osprey rotorcraft; the C-17 Globemaster transport; the Space Shuttle, the International Space Station, satellite space systems; these are all Boeing products. Summer interns will work on these and related types of products and supporting technology to develop technical and leadership skills and to experience a challenging introduction to engineering careers within the Boeing Company while having hands on experience.

Seeking multiple candidates. In the area of manufacturing systems the position includes: Serves under supervision for a specified period within the occupation and skill area that directly relates to their college engineering degree. Collects information to support definition of requirements for parts and processes used in the manufacture of products. Performs tests to qualify parts and processes to meet requirements. Conducts basic analysis to determine reasons for failures of parts or processes. Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions. -Develops basic computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements. Works under close supervision. Develops a working understanding of airplane systems (e.g., avionics, flight controls, electrical power distribution and automation) and the hardware and software techniques to safely and appropriately interact with them. As guided by senior engineers, gains an awareness of the software development environment and programming applications. Designs and develops limited process data collection, analysis, and delivery systems to the requirements specified by senior engineers. Gains exposure to data acquisition and analysis hardware and software development methodology by assisting senior engineers. Designs and develops limited computer and production systems to the requirements specified by senior engineers. Gains exposure to specialized hardware, software, and development methodologies by assisting senior engineers.

In the area of Simulation and advance analytics the position includes: Accomplishes analysis to optimize manufacturing and support systems, and processes. Gathers requirements, data, and resource specifications. Executes design and development of computer simulation, and other analytical models, to predict the performance of manufacturing systems, business processes, logistics, and supply chains. Verifies and validates the model prior to running simulations to increase fidelity and confidence in the predicted results. Analyzes alternatives solutions and selects optimum approach. Assists leadership in presenting results to decision makers to support decisions for new and improved production systems. Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs. Integrates new technologies as appropriate. Works under close supervision.

Manufacturing Systems: Position supports Puget Sound and requires mobility across Puget Sound sites. Prefer students pursuing an engineering related degree from an ABET accredited school. Simulation and Advanced Analytics: The following are a plus: IE skills and knowledge and Catia, CAA, C++ in Catia, graphic data movement/translations, and hi-def 3D renderings related CAD skills. Discrete Event Simulation (DES) in Arena, ProModel, Extend, Quest, etc., operations research, Six Sigma related statistics (using MiniTab, R, S-Plus, etc.) and math (matlab, etc.). Visual Studio.Net, Java, Asp.net, SQL, VBA in Access and Excel, etc. Good written and oral communications skills. A self starter with the ability to work well individually or on teams. Strong communication and people skills along with the flexibility to change tasks when priorities demands. Must be willing to travel to Boeing sites in the Puget Sound area, as well as occasional business travel outside Puget Sound via land or air.
