MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Tax Compliance - Develop and execute processes to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations in all jurisdictions where Weber does business.
- Domestic: Perform tax compliance functions. Establish appropriate tax compliance policies, procedures and processes. Signs income tax returns on behalf of Weber and subsidiary companies.
- International: Establish policies and procedures surrounding tax compliance requirements for Weber’s foreign operations. Ensure adequate corporate oversight and monitoring of foreign subsidiaries.
- Audit Resolution: Set overall guidelines for managing relations with tax authorities. Ensure policies and procedures are in place to properly handle federal, state, local and international audits. Establish settlement guidelines and policies. Lead negotiations for significant matters and approve settlements in accordance with applicable Weber approval limits. Advise top management on audit issues and ensure proper approval of settlements.
- Tax Distributions: Responcible for completion of all tax distribution requirements including co-ordinating the payment thereof.
Tax Planning
- Lead worldwide tax planning to minimize Weber’s overall cash tax rate.
- Establish goals for Weber’s overall cash tax rate.
- Proactively identify tax-planning opportunities through awareness of internal business operations and external benchmarking.
- Develop tax-planning strategies, considering senior management tolerance for risk.
- Coordinate with the Weber Finance on plans that involve capital structure and financing activities to ensure optimal overall results for Weber.
- Vigorously lead projects with company-wide impact.
Tax Advising
- Advise management on tax implications of ongoing and potential business activities and transactions.
- Play a dynamic role in planning and implementing business and MA transactions.
- Serve as a resource for top management inquiries on tax matters and engage external resources as warranted.
- Assure follow-through on issues.
Tax Accounting Financial Reporting - Working with the Controller, manage Weber’s consolidated income tax accounting functions, including determination of financial accounting policies for tax-related items. Maintain strong internal controls over tax accounting processes; ensure compliance with provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley Act as applicable.
- Provision for Income Taxes: Apply judgment in the evaluation of Weber tax positions and exposures consistent with GAAP and other relevant accounting requirements. Establish processes for the determination of consolidated tax expense. Forecast future effective tax rates and develop strategies to achieve tax rate goals.
- Tax Balance Sheet Accounts: Establish accounting policies and controls for tax balance sheet accounts. Ensure such accounts are properly stated in accordance with GAAP and other relevant accounting requirements.
Lobbying
- Monitor tax legislation and regulatory developments.
- Actively participate in outside professional organizations and develop contacts within relevant tax communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- CPA or JD and/or LLM
- MST
- International business experience
- Experience leading tax function in a consumer business
- Senior management communication skills
Direct Experience:
- At least 10 years of corporate tax experience with Big 4, Fortune 500, or equivalent experience.
- Tax skills including:
- International Tax and Tax Planning, advanced skill level with significant experience
- Global tax compliance, advanced skill level
- Tax Accounting and GAAP (FAS 109), proficient skill level
- Expert at successfully managing a global tax function with a complex business matrix
Indirect or Direct Experiences resulting in proficiency with:
- Treasury
- Corporate accounting and corporate controls
- Corporate legal functions
Technical Experience
- Expert accounting and tax knowledge, updated via continuing professional education.
- Strong financial skills and knowledge, including the ability to establish and monitor key financial business indicators.
- Basic office computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
