Investment Analyst
Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation (CSC) is responsible for the investment and management of more than AUD27 billion, and for the superannuation of over 650,000members from the public sector and the military superannuation board.
In this newly created role, reporting to the Senior Investment Manager, Absolute Return Strategies, you will be an integral part of the CSC Investment Team. Your key responsibilities include:
- Active contribution to fund-level outcomes, from the perspective of opportunities within the in absolute return and hedge fund universe;
- Analysis (quantitative and qualitative) of potential new investment opportunities;
- Co-analysis and engagement with all members of the investment team;
- Analysis and reconciliation of performance and risk attributions;
- Mandate negotiations; and
- Communication with incumbent and potential investment managers.
You will have a strong quantitative background, ideally combined with an econometrics capability. An important attribute is the capacity to consider and analyse complex interactions in financial markets, instruments and trading strategies, including derivatives. It is essential that you think laterally, and are comfortable dealing with a broad range of investment strategies. You will possess deep knowledge of macroeconomics - and the impact it has on investment management and portfolio construction. You will need to think critically about how fund managers make their investment decisions, and determine thebest candidates to meet CSC’sbroader investment objectives. Knowledge of alternative investment strategies is not essential, but an interest and appetite to learn is critical.
Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written are essential as you will articulate and substantiate your views across the investment team. You will be self-motivated and able to undertake research projects both independently and collaboratively. You will have a minimum of three years professional experience within financial markets, combined with a tertiary qualification in finance/economics or econometrics. Post graduate qualifications are highly regarded.
