Investment Director / Senior Associate (depending on experience) recruitment

The Company

IPGL is one of the most experienced financial services investors in the UK. We have backed 21 financial services businesses and have an excellent track record. Unusually we work across the entire spectrum of financial services from start-ups through to mature, late stage businesses. We are agnostic as to minority vs. majority stakes and development capital vs. buyout. Structured as a holding company and not a fund, we are able to partner with companies for the long term, taking a pro-active approach using deep sector experience. We invest up to £15 m initially in a new opportunity.

Michael Spencer, the founder and CEO of ICAP, is majority owner of IPGL and also its Chairman.

The Role

Based in London, we are looking to hire a senior associate/ investment director, depending on experience, to join our small team and help us manage the portfolio that also includes a number of non-financial services companies. This will involve monitoring performance, advising portfolio companies on corporate strategy, assisting them with MA and then helping arrange the exits.  In due course it is expected the candidate will sit on the boards of these companies. The candidate will also assist with the evaluation and negotiation of new investments. This represents an opportunity to join a highly entrepreneurial business in a role that will offer diversity, responsibility, and challenge.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will currently be working for a venture capital or private equity firm and have around 7-12 years of relevant commercial experience. He/she should have experience of making, monitoring and exiting investments and ideally should have served on a number of company boards. He/she will probably have a background in strategy consulting, investment banking or accountancy. Knowledge of the financial services sector would also be helpful but is not a pre-requisite. Other relevant backgrounds will be considered. In particular we would be open to hearing from someone who has worked for a financial institution within business development, internal MA or strategic principal investments.

We are looking for someone with sound commercial judgement, good communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic unstructured environment. Compensation will be in line with the market.
