INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT – Empirical Research recruitment

As a leading global fund manager, this company was founded in academia, and has a number of world renown economists leading the investment process.

In the newly created role of Research Associate, you will have  the opportunity to work with such luminaries, researching portfolio analysis and design, performing portfolio simulations as well as broader empirical research.  As part of the Research team, you will be required to produce academically grounded research that will support and enhance the group’s investment strategies. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that this research can be utilised for the purposes of continuing client education through seminars and conferences.

Given the academic nature of the role, you will have or be nearing completion in a PhD in Finance or Economics, preferably with some reference to asset pricing. You will have extensive experience in completing empirical research, particularly with large datasets, combined with strong programming skills. Research is both team based and individually focused, so you must be comfortable working in both environments. Overriding these requirements is the ability to communicate complex economic concepts simply to make them accessible to a broader audience, both through written and verbal presentations.

The role will initially be based in the US for 12 months so that you can immerse yourself in the global research team. After that time, you will be permanently located in Sydney in order to develop the local research capacity.

This represents a truly exceptional opportunity for a PhD graduate to work in a commercial environment that absolutely embraces academic research and thinking.
