Investment Officer

LeapFrog: Business as Unusual
LeapFrog Investments manages some of the world’s largest and leading profit-with-purpose funds. The funds invest in companies that serve the next billion emerging consumers with insurance and other essential financial tools. LeapFrog seeks robust returns from these investments, while simultaneously enabling millions of low-income people with the financial safety nets and springboards to escape poverty. In less than five years, via its fast-growing and profitable portfolio companies, LeapFrog has reached 18 million people across six countries in Asia and Africa.

An integral part of the Edinburgh team
As an integral part of the LeapFrog’s Edinburgh office, you will be a core member of a team that is focused on growing LeapFrog’s impact across India and South Asia. As an Investment Officer, you will help LeapFrog to source and execute exciting investment opportunities, to grow portfolio companies sustainably, and to expand the reach of insurance and other essential financial services in key markets throughout India and South Asia.

On-the-job Professional Development
You will have the unique opportunity to work directly with, and be mentored by, LeapFrog Partners and Directors. As an entrepreneurial firm, your development will be primarily through the work you do, regular conversations with your mentor and a personal development grant that you can use for training, conferences or other capability-building experiences. You will be part of the next generation of like-minded investors and changemakers globally, collaboratively improving the world and markets around them.

Experience
You will come from a top tier private equity, investment banking or consulting background, have a relevant degree or advanced degree, and have demonstrated experience in financial modeling, business analysis or transaction development. You have shown deep commitment to social impact or entrepreneurship, ideally both. You will have worked globally, both in developed and emerging economies, and ideally across India and South Asia.

Essential Attributes and Activities
• Intellectual drive and capacity. You will be expected to quickly get up to speed with all of LeapFrog’s activities and investments as well as the broader global investment and impact spaces. Thereafter, daily responsibilities will include investment due diligence, industry analysis, financial modeling, and marketing and transaction support. There will also be opportunities to work directly with the portfolio companies.

• Attention to detail and superb organisational skills. You will need to be exceptionally organised both in your own work and in helping to project manage the activities of others. You will be comfortable doing so across multiple time zones and under tight deadlines. This will be of importance especially during the due diligence phase as well as when working with portfolio companies.

• Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written. You will work with partners to create persuasive investment memos and you will be able to influence managers at all levels to get things done. You will be able to hold your own with senior business leaders, comfortable in both formal and informal contexts. A South Asian language is an advantage.

• Drive, flexibility and resilience. You will get things done and quickly reprioritise tasks. You will be resilient, determinedly optimistic and easy to work with, even under pressure. You will be willing to travel at least one week a month.

• Character and values. You will have the confidence to connect at senior levels, the willingness to pitch in and do whatever needs to get done, and a set of values and a collaborative style that engages everyone in the organisation. You will see yourself as core to the team developing the Edinburgh office, acting as an ambassador for LeapFrog in all external forums.
