Investment Officer III

CalPERS seeks an Investment Officer III (IO III) to work under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager (PM) of Real Assets. The IO III assigned to the position identified above demonstrates the CalPERS Core Values (Quality, Respect, Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Balance), works well as a member of a team, and takes initiative in effectively performing the following functions:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Act as lead with specific limited delegation of authority for certain actions related to the management of an assigned portfolio

• Be responsible for leading critical objectives consistent with the strategic plans for the Infrastructure and Forestland programs

• Mentor junior staff in refining their understanding of market practices, enhancing risk/adjusted returns  

• Provide support to senior management for strategic planning, investment transactions, portfolio management and other investment program initiatives

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

• Five years of increasingly responsible investment analysis experience for a public agency or private financial institution, insurance company, pension fund, endowment fund, investment firm, real estate development and investment firm, or private corporation or entity having a major investment management program.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience in portfolio management and/or transactions in a private asset class (e.g. infrastructure, private equity, etc.)

• Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills and solid understanding of financial analysis concepts and tools

• Proficiency in the use of financial models and Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Proficiency in financial statement analysis and the reporting of key quantitative and qualitative information

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Industry knowledge related to Infrastructure and Forestland, including any sector expertise.  

• Reliable team player with demonstrated ability to independently complete work assignments

• MBA, CFA or other relevant designation
