CalPERS seeks an Investment Officer I/II (IO I/II) to work under the supervision of the Senior Portfolio Manager, Investment Servicing Division. The IO I/II assigned to the position identified above demonstrates the CalPERS Core Values (Quality, Respect, Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Balance), works well as a member of a team, and takes initiative in effectively performing the following functions:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Serve as Custodial Relationship Liaison by assisting the SPM with oversight of the relationship with State Street Bank. The relationship covers custody, fund accounting, total fund performance, middle office services, hedge fund administration and private equity accounting

• Identify and address any issues or requests, make recommendations to SPM and COIO, and coordinate resolution of issues with vendor

• Assist SPM in the management of the associated contracts to ensure the investment assets of CalPERS are safely and accurately maintained

• Track and resolve issues or problems among investment staff, brokers, consultants, investment accounting staff and the vendor

• Facilitate monthly relationship meeting with master custodian representatives to maintain consistent communication lines

• Coordinate responses between CalPERS Investment Office and vendor, and maintains correspondence between CalPERS, vendor and other associated relationships

• Oversee the adherence to contract service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) and confirm incentive fee calculations are accurate

• Assist SPM in negotiating and maintaining all side and third-party agreements

• Prepare agenda items to the Investment Committee 

• Analyze market requirements and prepare documentation to satisfy requirements for trading in foreign markets

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

• Three years of increasingly responsible investment analysis experience for a public agency or private financial institution, insurance company, pension fund, endowment fund, investment firm, real estate development and investment firm, or other private corporation or entity having a major investment management program

Desirable Qualifications:

• MBA or possession of an advanced degree in finance or another applicable technical field

• Professional certification such as a CPA, CFA, MFE, ASA/FSA

• Strong analytical skills with keen attention to details

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Ability to work independently and under short time constraints

• Microsoft Office experience; Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
