Position Description

Morgan Stanley Investment Management, together with its investment advisory affiliates, has over 550 investment professionals around the world and $347 billion in assets under management or supervision as of June 30, 2013. MSIM strives to provide outstanding long-term investment performance, service and a comprehensive suite of investment management solutions to a diverse client base, which includes governments, institutions, corporations and individuals worldwide.

The position supports MSREI's global strategy and research activities, through the analysis of macroeconomic, capital market and property market data. MSREI manages a diverse portfolio of approximately $34B in real estate assets. The global portfolio includes private equity and debt real estate strategies across all property types and risk/return levels. The position will include coverage of the global real estate markets. The position is a key supporting role on the Strategy and Research team, which is integrated into the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing platform, and includes broad interaction with a wide range of professionals in the investing group.

Scope of Duties:

Contribute to the formulation of real estate investment strategy
• Track economic, capital market and property fundamentals data and trends
• Analyze dynamic market indicators and trends to formulate investment themes

Transaction-level support
• Prepare market and property-type specific analysis for investment committee presentations
• Work with deal team to formulate underwriting assumptions based on market and submarket level research
• Assist in market research process

Support of Client Request and Interactions
• Help create presentations to address specific client issues and questions
• Support management for preparation for client and board meetings
• Prepare specific content for investor reporting

Skills Required

Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in economics, math or finance preferred
• Intellectual curiosity in economic, capital markets and real estate analysis is necessary
• Strong econometrics/statistical or quantitative background
• Strong capabilities in Excel and PowerPoint
• VBA macros / programming skills preferred
• Need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative and a team player
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
• Task-oriented and strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task, juggle multiple assignments and deadlines important to success
