Job Purpose

The IT Architect is responsible for providing leadership and subject matter expertise in the design, deployment, and management of the company’s internal cloud including all infrastructure components and should have experience with VMware, Linux/UNIX, Windows, and SAN/NAS computing environments.

The individual will be responsible for delivery of results against objectives while participating on cross-functional teams as required.

Essential Job Results

- Develop design and deployment standards, policies, and procedures for virtual environments.

- Establish administration and governance best practices for virtual environments.

- Define new capabilities and tools that need to be developed to support cloud initiatives.

- Develop and maintain processes, documentation and metrics for the management, monitoring of resource utilization, and capacity planning of virtual environments.

- Ensure that administrative processes and environment configuration adhere to security best practices.

- Utilize appropriate project management methodology as required by each project. Develop test plans and assess risk to ensure architecture integrates with infrastructure standards and best practices.

- Provide technical support and training to staff on all related technologies as necessary.

- Assist with architecture and administration of SAN/NAS environments.

- Participate in outage resolution and on-call rotation in support of server and storage infrastructure.

- Analyze infrastructure requirements and develop solutions for business and IT projects.

- Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Requirements

- Strong understanding of systems virtualization/orchestration, including VMware (including VCNI, vCloud, vShield, etc.

- Solid understanding of cloud computing environments.

- Bachelor degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience.

- 7-10 years of experience with:

- Design, implementation and support of virtual environments including VMware ESX and vSphere .

- Storage-Area Network (SAN /NAS) design, administration and support .

- Operating system deployment and administration including UNIX, Linux, and/or Windows servers .

- Mid to Senior level working knowledge of vSphere 4 platform suite including but not limited to design, configuration, daily administration, capacity planning, and solving related problems.

- Strong understanding of hosting architectures including database and SAN technologies and concepts.

- Knowledge of automation and monitoring tools such as PowerCLI and vCenter Orchestrator.

- Experience with enterprise Disaster Recovery exercises, best practices, and data replication.

- Experience with desktop virtualization technologies.

- Experience in development of enterprise strategies and associated technologies.

- Ability to articulate design points and underlying architectural elements while developing a business case in support of enterprise strategies.

- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while supporting multiple technical areas of a complex computing environment.

- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to provide off-hours support as required.

- Proven self-discipline, self-direction and motivation.

- ITIL certification preferred.

- VCP4 Certification preferred.
