IT DIRECTOR FOR CURRENCIES & COMMODITIES recruitment

On behalf of our client, a European tiered bank, we are recruiting an IT director for their Currencies and Commodities business. You will have overall responsibility for managing 3 teams with 25+ business and IT-skilled employees. The teams are trusted with the responsibility for the bank’s key platforms - FX, Money Markets and Commodities.


IT Currencies and Commodities is a department in IT Capital Markets, providing pricing, trading and trade processing solutions to FICC (Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities) in Capital Markets Products. The department manage platforms from Wallstreet systems, Murex, Open Link, and Reuters, and is going through a period of intense change, consolidating the platforms and further developing them in order to meet customer requirements and follow the sector infrastructural development.

Your key success criteria in the position will be to secure the bank’s leading position within IT for FX, MM and Commodities. This can only be achieved through solid technological insight combined with ability to strategic thinking and networking with leading vendors, peers and counterparts. You will manage three teams cross border, across the Nordics, and will take charge of development and maintenance of a portfolio of applications used by FICC.

In your role, you will be a member of IT Capital Markets management, representing your department and the area in various decision making and steering groups across the bank. You will report to the head of IT Capital Markets and liaise directly with FICC business management. We expect you to have a track-record from a similar job with the capability of establishing good relations with your employees, your peers and partners in business and IT as well as with external partners. In addition, you will have a great personal drive, are extroverted, proactive and know how to utilise different competencies in your team.

You will have previous experience from the FX, MM and commodities industry and strong technical skills, preferably including areas like ecommerce and low latency trading, front-to-back efficiency, stability and capacity issues. Your mix of business and IT skills allows you to be equally comfortable speaking to the head of FX trading as the head of IT infrastructure, and you have a good international network with colleagues, vendors and stakeholders within the area.
