IT Manager – Commodities – 60k recruitment

The role is for the IT Manager in the London Branch of the group of companies but will also oversee the IT in the newly opened Geneva, Switzerland office.

THE ROLE:
Development of the in house trade capture and trading system. This is built using Java on top of JBoss servers with a MySQL backend. The application presents itself to the users in the form of a WebStart application and is used across the group. Therefore an applicant must have experience of working in a development role with good Java skills including experience with GUI development and be proficient in SQL. They should also have experience of deploying applications on Linux. The candidate will work alongside the development team, who are based in USA, and will focus primarily on the implementation of UK/Europe specific features.

The applicant will also be responsible for the maintenance of the London and Geneva computer and telecommunications equipment. The activity will be supported by a junior member of staff for who this is their primary responsibility, which will allow for the applicant to focus more on the development activities. They of course will be in overall control the IT systems and this includes, servers (Windows), desktops (Windows), network equipment (switches, firewalls, etc), fixed line phones, mobile phones, printers, etc. Some knowledge about networks is required and knowledge of telephone systems would be of benefit but not essential. There will also be work to support the business with tasks such as maintaining London specific reports.

The applicant will be a mentor to the junior support engineer and possibly in the future oversee his/her Java development skills so he/she can begin to participate in development/support.
