IT Network Engineer
Position Summary The IT Network Engineer will be responsible for the administration of all IT network devices from an infrastructure standpoint including routers, firewalls, switches, intrusion detection devices, WAN circuits, and the VoIP implementation. Duties and Responsibilities Core duty is to maintain the IT network infrastructure and provide day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all network devices. Create or update high-level and detailed network diagrams for all sections of the WAN including circuits, physical maps, and logical topology. Monitor network capacity to ensure users receive adequate application and service response times. Model future network capacity for failure scenarios to proactively predict routing and topology changes. Advise on network single points of failure and make recommendations for achieving optimal network uptime. Ability to perform routine backups of all running configuration files for the routers, core switches, firewalls, and IDP devices. Candidate should be able to evaluate current Disaster Recovery plans and make recommendations for improvements a necessary. Knowledge to support, upgrade, and maintain all Juniper routers, Juniper firewalls, and Juniper IDS devices in the IT infrastructure. Knowledge to support, upgrade, and maintain all Cisco routers, Cisco core switches, and Cisco firewalls. Maintenance and knowledge to support LAN devices as needed including Juniper, Foundry, Cisco, and HP switches. Knowledge of supporting Wireless networks, access points, and wireless encryption methods. Develops and oversees the adherence to data use standards for data, voice, video or other network hardware systems. Provides expert technical support and guidance on highly complex design issues to IT service users and less experienced personnel. Investigates and resolves matters of significance in accordance to IT Service Level Agreements. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Required Knowledge and Skills Must be extremely proficient with both JUNOS and ScreenOS. Solid knowledge of Information Technology principles and practices. Ability to evaluate potential upgrades or firmware updates to network devices and advise on impact of implementation. Experience managing a multi-site WAN environment with knowledge of T-1, Frame-Relay, MPLS, DS3, and Metro Ethernet circuits. Working knowledge and experience in layer 3 routing protocols including RIPv2, OSPF, and BGP. Expert knowledge of Juniper SRX Series Services Gateways, Juniper SSG firewalls, Juniper J Series routers, and Juniper series Intrusion Detection Products. Knowledge of configuring, upgrading, and maintaining all aspects of Juniper network management software including Juno Space and Network and Security Manager (NSM). Knowledge of Cisco VoIP implementations including Call Manager, Unity, and Cisco IP Telephony devices. Knowledge of maintaining and securing various remote access methodologies including SSL VPN. Knowledge of SecureLink Enterprise is a desirable plus. Knowledge of LAN/WAN monitoring tools including SolarWinds Engineering Toolset. Troubleshoot highly complex data, voice or video network and hardware problems; research and analyze significant, complex network problems that require evaluation of intangibles, such as downstream effects on client satisfaction. Research and analyze data or voice networking technologies to remain pro-active and current in the industry. Make recommendations for future direction. Analyze highly complex data, voice or video network documentation and communicate to the Director of IT regarding the current operational status of networks. Understanding of encryption technology including PKI, DES, 3DES, WEP, WPA, WPA2, Certificate Authorities, SSL Certificates, and Microsoft Certificate Manager. Must demonstrate a code of ethics and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality in dealing with sensitive data and proprietary information. Customer first; candidate must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills. Required Natural Behaviors Must be able to stand for a minimum (8) hour shift. Must be able to fulfill extensive on-call duties as required. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required. Required Education and Work Experience Bachelors degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent experience in conjunction with industry standard certifications. Minimum of 5 years experience working in a large IT infrastructure supporting Cisco, HP, and Juniper devices. Must possess or be able to achieve within 1 year of hire, CompTIA Net+, CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, JNCIA, JNCIP, JNCIS, or comparable certification approved by the Director of IT.
