IT Support Technician

This is an exciting opportunity working for a fantastic award winning business in SW17. 1st/2nd line technical support.

Please note you must be a car driver (don't need a car) and live within 45 minutes of Wimbledon/Colliers wood.

We’re seeking an intelligent, confident, enthusiastic and motivated person to join a friendly IT team and provide a professional, courteous and rapid response to the staff across all sites. We are looking for someone who thrives on helping others and enjoys doing a job well.

This person will become the primary contact for the support team, and take on responsibility for PCs, laptops and other endpoint devices (including hardware configuration, software builds and application deployment).  Other tasks will include researching new hardware and software, server and network administration, and independent project work.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in Microsoft operating systems and related technologies, coupled with desktop hardware build and configuration experience.  Candidates will also be able to demonstrate broad IT knowledge combined with technical enthusiasm and confidence, in addition to strong communication, time management and problem solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1st/ 2nd line technical support

·         Provide first line technical support to all staff over telephone and email; act as primary contact for all hardware, software and other IT-related issues.

·         Log support calls, provide status updates to users, and maintain documentation of resolutions to common queries; escalate as appropriate to other team members.

·         Give technical assistance and informal training to staff members in the use of Microsoft Office and other standard company applications.

Desktop PC and hardware management

·         Build, install and configure PCs and associated peripherals, including new equipment and the redeployment of existing hardware.

·         Maintain existing PCs and peripherals by performing upgrades and other routine procedures; escalate hardware faults and manage returns to third-party companies.

·         Assist with the maintenance of managed system software builds comprised of operating system, supported applications and other pre-installed resources; keep builds current via the testing and integration of security patches and software version upgrades as required.

·         Manage networked printers, keeping service outages to an absolute minimum; escalate work to third parties in accordance with existing maintenance agreements, provide workarounds for staff and give regular status updates.

·         Assist in the research and procurement process for new office PCs, peripherals and other equipment in response to the needs of the business; maintain asset inventory of hardware and software

·         Assist with regular server and network management tasks as directed by the Infrastructure Team Lead.

Experience and Skills:

Essential

·         Experience of 1st/2nd line technical support in a commercial/professional environment (minimum 2 years)

·         In-depth knowledge of Windows XP Professional operation system installation, configuration and troubleshooting (or similar)

·         Expert in Microsoft Office 2003/2007 application suites for both setup and key application (Word/Excel) best practice

·         Active Directory and Group Policy Management

·         Centralised application deployment (e.g. via Group Policy and scripts, or similar method)

·         Basic IPv4 networking in routed and switched environments

·         General administration experience of Windows Server roles, such as: Printers and File shares

·         Full, clean driving licence is essential

Desirable

Candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of any or all of the following are at an advantage:

·         Windows Deployment Services (or other OS deployment platform)

·         Symantec enterprise management products (e.g. Backup Exec, Endpoint Protection)

·         Scripting PowerShell, WSH and WMI

·         Windows 7 and Office 2010

·         Administration of Apple Mac hardware and OS X in an AD environment

·         Windows Server 2008 technologies and administration

·         BlackBerry Express/Enterprise Server and mobile devices

Our Client

 Our Client is an award-winning organic food business based in South London, employs over 350 staff across seven sites. 

 

Additional information:

·         Salary: £24,000 – £26,000

·         Hours: 40 hour week, 8.30am – 5.30pm (including scheduled out of hours work)

·         After the successful candidate displays a sufficient understanding of the IT Operations they would be required to join the Out-of-hours call rota where they would be on-call every 3rd week – An annual allowance of £1800 would be added to the candidates pay, plus a call out fee for every time they were contacted

·         Location: 4 days a week at  head office in Wimbledon and 1 day at the Andover site (travel expenses covered to attend this site), plus visits to other site locations when needed

·         Holidays: 22 days rising to 25 with service
