Job Description
The Systems Engineer must have a strong understanding of VMware infrastructure and VDI administration. Show ability to Design/Build/Administer servers and virtual desktops through VMware ESX server, VMware Virtual Center. Implement and PowerShell scripting for reduced administrative efforts. Monitor utilization, capacity growth and performance across several sites. Work with Network, SAN and backup teams effectively in building and maintaining VMware environment. Must have Experience in an ESXi-vSphere. As a secondary required skill, experience in Windows 2003/2008 from a systems engineer perspective including Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft SQL. Need to have a decent familiarity with Unix/Linux OS.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of VMware (vSphere 4 and vSphere 5)
- Must have experience managing and deploying Virtual Desktops
- Solid knowledge of VDI broker technology
- Must be able to manage EMC CLARiiONs and Fiber Channel Switches in a multisite environment
- Must have experience managing enterprise backups (EMC Avamar preferred)
- Ability to design, test, and manage disaster recovery of virtual machines using EMC RecoverPoint and VMware SRM
- Systems administration knowledge on operating systems within the Windows server family (Windows 2003/2008).
- Experience with VMware vCloud Director or Lab Manager a plus
- Extremely detail-oriented and able to follow standard methodologies for troubleshooting and development
- Requires 24x7 production support and on call rotation
Technical Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience working in IT
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing VMware Infrastructure
- Minimum of 3 years of VDI implementation and administration
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing EMC CLARiiON storage
- Experience managing virtual desktops
- Experience managing Windows 2003/2008 Servers
- Experience with Fiber Channel Switches
- Enterprise DR experience
- Experience managing backups (preferably EMC Avamar)
- EMC RecoverPoint experience
- VMware SRM experience
- VMware vCloud Director or Lab Manager experience
- EMC performance and optimization experience
- Ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert on Storage, VMware, Backups, and Disaster Recovery
- Ability to ensure the technical integrity of corporate data by protecting against the loss or misuse or information and designing backup/recovery strategies
- Ability to design, implementation and tune VMware for optimal performance
- Success at working with clients to understand the business needs and develop effective, scalable and maintainable solutions to meet the business requirements deadlines and deliverables
- Must be proficient in Virtual Desktop Administration, design, and implementation.
- Must be proficient in VMware (vSphere 4 and vSphere 5)
- Must be proficient in EMC CLARiiONs and Fiber Channel Switches
Education
Bachelors Degree in MIS or CIS or equivalent job experience
Licenses or Certification
VCP Strongly Preferred
